know your opponent

All of you who are as addicted to speed as I am: beware - my nasty little habit almost got me arrested last week. I should have known better though - when a generic P.O.S. sedan keeps pace with your CL-S (at well over 100 MPH) you should figure it's an undercover cop. That's who I was racing out on the interstate, and was I ever shocked when those blue lights appeared out of nowhere. Now I only race little punks in hooked up Civics.

I almost had this happen to me once. I was speeding on this parkway when I see a car keeping up (this was in my galant a few years ago). I was about to punch it and decided not to so as I let the guy catch up it seems like an off duty cop and he just signals me to slow down. Dodged a bullet on that one.

lucky me

Believe it or not, he let me go, but not before he ripped me a new one. I think he was totally shocked to see a girl doing something like this. Now I watch myself more closely, and know that a cop can be driving ANYTHING! Anyway, I'm really grateful, because a similar stunt when I first had a license (and a brand new Z-28) cost me almost $200, 5 points on my license, and I was almost arrested. I still laugh about that, and I'm still, and probably always will be, a leadfoot.

I was just very, very lucky. Like I said before, I've had plenty of other tickets. Because I've pretty much driven a "cop magnet" car since I was 17, it's pretty rare that I've been given a break, no matter what I was wearing. You know, they figure they're catching you doing this, how much else have you pulled? The only reason I wasn't arrested years ago for doing something similar was because that cop didn't feel like doing all the paperwork to arrest me and impound my ride.

Anyway, this guy was REALLY nice in letting me go and I've tried to be careful since (although I did beat another CLS last weekend - guy was pissed). Again, I'm really grateful, one of the few times I've been let off I could have really been nailed - we had travelled a good 10 miles, up over 100 most of the time before he stopped me, it was almost what you'd call a high speed chase. The very few people I told got a real bang out of it.
