I'm keeping mine. I'm considering the Dr. Evil tranny if my glass tranny goes, then I'll drive it the way that I want to. Yes I could buy a 6 speed, but then I'll have to mod it all over again which is headers, CAI, Pulleys, tint and drop. Plus my recent 14.43 @ 101 tells me the car is right!

Thumbs up

I'm keeping mine and I have 101k miles...
Car still drives great and is very dependable!
To much negative equity in it to try and get rid of it now...
What are your thoughts about coilovers on ebay? I am looking for some cheap crap to make it feel better while driving. I realize that a lot of things on ebay are cheap knock-offs, but what about the coilovers?
Of course you don't want something that would put your driving experience in jeopardy...
As far as performance headers as well.. Would it be that bad using cheaper ones compared to name brand?

I'm not trying to go all out on mods, just have some that will do for now.
I'm asking because someone out there must have had tried these before...
Would they make that much of a difference on a CLP as it would with a CLS?
Getting an AEM cold air intake too...

I'm at 140K+ and as of now I'm planning on keeping it. Although I'm not worried about my tranny since I've got a 6spd. I am though looking at purchasing a new car hopefully by the end of this year or early next year. I'm looking at either an A3, A4, A4 avant.

I was contemplating getting a TSX or maybe a TL. But for that much I'd rather get an audi especially since I've been wanting an Audi for the last 5 years now.

Have you checked out the '07 TL???

They came back with the Type S and it has a 3.5 L motor with 286 Hp and 256 Ft-Lbs of torque. 12.2 inch disc with "4-pot Brembo Calipers" . Sport-Tuned suspension and Navi is standard (type s). Instrument panel and ambient lighting is Red.

Fog lights are back.

Honeycomb rims.

Quad exhaust outlets.

Lower air damn lip and side sills.

Of course, you get the 5 speed Auto or 6 speed Manual. The auto now comes with "paddle shifters" on the steering wheel.

Anyways, if you go to acura.com and click on future vehicles, you can read about it and see pics.

haha I hate to admit it but the chick who bought my Eclipse GS-T has got to be the dummiest person alive. I specifically told her that this car does not have a factory clutch, it actually has an upgraded performance clutch (Clutchmaster) Stage 4 Six pluck. Two days later she calls me and says that I sold her POS car cause she literally killed her tranny. I asked her how did you drive the car? She responded that she press down the clutch put it into first and then press the gas while releasing the clutch the same amount between both pedals and then shift to second. She told me it was hard to shift into second, third, fourth and fifth. You shoulda seen my face when she said that I just replied did you even press the clutch down between each gears? She said no I thought you only need to do that for first gear......I was like sorry but if you read my ad no Refund.

It's a never ending cycle of 7.5K, 15K, 30K services and major services at the 105K intervals.

Nope. You just have to maintain the vehicle for the first 120K miles, after that the vehicle is smart enough to do the maintence all by itself

Of course you do... just keep doing the maintence that's required every 7500 and 30K miles...

The maintenance shedule only goes up to 120K miles 'cause after that it just repeats itself...

... so at 210K miles, you have to change the timing belt AGAIN

I've checked out the specs on the new type-s. In fact I've posted pics about it i believe.

Spending 39K+ on a TL just doesn't sound appealing to me at this point when I can spend 2K more and get an a4 avant which is a better fit for my needs and is more customizable than the TL.

I do like the new look of the TL-S.

Even if I buy non-acura, i'm still stayin on the board. been here too long to turn away.

87k now, keeping until around 100k and selling at 100k for a 03 6 speed. You just can't trust after 100k and forking out a couple grand for a tranny is definitely not on my to do list. Will then decide on S/C with HBP or fabbed turbo setup!

Meh... I've been here for 4 years, so I've seen 'em come and seen 'em go... It's a natural thing on a forum, and now that the 2G CL is 6 years old, you're going to see alot more of it...

I was just pointing out the Auto News forum since alot of the newer CL guys here never make it over the the offtopic forums...

I had my last car for 136K miles... but with the stuff that coming out now (335 coupe, G3X coupe, Camaro, Challenger, etc etc) who knows how long I'll make it...

Dealers can only certify Acuras with under 75K miles, then there's the 100K/7 year milestone for the auto guys... the 100K milestone is another place where people like to sell because they want to avoid the 105K service...

So, If I make it past 75k, and then 105K, I'll probably be a CL owner for awhile...

Another thing that Brett reminded me of the other day...

Most of you guys are fixated on the 100K mile warranty... It's only good for 7 years... so if the " in service date" of your CL was in 2000, then you'll be coming up on 7 years in 2007 regardless of how many miles you have on the CL...

I suspect alot of people are going to have trannies fail before 100K, but won't be covered because of the 7 year limit... Lots of unhappy people posting "Acura won't pay for my tranny even tho' I have under 100K miles" threads starting next year...

Damn, that would be terrible. Imagine buying a car thinking you have warranty until 100K. Then you end up forking out the cost of a supercharger. Think they'll ever extend it? 11 years/150K?

Greenie, do you think the KBB on these cars have anything to do w/ the auto tranny? It seems like even the '03 6-speeds are selling for cheap now

I think the values on these cars has suffered from the autotragedy and from the discontinuation of the CL...

Edmunds said (back in 2002) that my CL's value should have been 52% after 5 years... it's probably like 50% after 4 years, so the depreciation is not as bad as some would like you to think, but it's not as good as it should have been.

I paid 29.4K for my 6spd in 2002, and it's probably worth about 15K in trade now (maybe)... 14.7K would be 50%, so all in all, I guess that's not bad for new car depreciation...

The 03 6spds, have probably dropped as much as they can price wise... While I think you'll see more and more 100K mile (and 7 year old) 01's selling for under $10K, the 6spd have hit bottom IMHO (at least for a few years). You might see some high mileage 6spds (90K plue miles) go for 12-14K, but that's probably the bottom limit... a 6spd with average mileage (12.5K miles a year) still sells for 15-18k (privately)...

I'm hoping the relative rarity of the 6spd helps with the bottom end of the depreciation curve... While the last few years haven't been kind to the original owners of 6spds, I'm thinking that the next few years will be nice with most 6spds only lossing $1K per year (at most)...

While I've seen some 01's going for under 10K, I don't think we'll see lots of $10K 6spds forsale for quite a number of years...

Do you think $18K - $21K for an 03 type S, with 6 speed + NAV/Onstar is expecting too much? It has 58K miles and every service record. No dings, no accidents and very well cared for. If I can't get $19K or more I won't sell.

I'm thinking of selling mine for a 2003 6speed BMW 540i w/ M package wheels/NAV. I owe just over 16K on my note and would like to walk away from the transaction with a few thousand to show for it.

thoughts? am i being unrealistic?

Yeah, I think $21K is unrealistic. 18-19K is probably what you'll be looking at. If you want a quick sale, you have to price it aggressively. Maybe list it at 20 or 21, but don't expect to get over 20 for it

Run a price check for it on kbb.com, edmunds.com, nada.com... you might be suprised... My idea of value is based on the above sites, and what I've seen on autotrader, ebay and the black market sales wise...

I don't have navi, but have slightly less mileage (52K), and I think my car would only fetch 15-17K (at most) in a private sale... That's one of the main reasons I'm leaning towards keeping it. I can't seem to find a better bang for the buck out there... Maybe I'll buy an older project car to ease my desire to buy another vehicle...

Check out autotrader near you for 6spd sales... Prices will have some regional variances...

Check out the threads here on 6spds that HAVEN'T sold:

$17.5K w/ 43K miles https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...highlight=6spd

$19K w/ 45K miles (with navi) https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...highlight=6spd

reduced to $16K w/ 59K miles (originally posted on 7/12/06 at a higher price) https://acurazine.com/forums/car-parts-sale-361/sold-f-s-2003-cl-type-s-6mt-ssm-price-reduced-343650/

Do you see a trend here ??

These are more realistic IMHO:

$16K w/ 55 miles https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...highlight=2003

$13.5K w/ 81K miles https://acurazine.com/forums/car-parts-sale-361/fs-03-cl-types-348262/

I guess I am under the misconception that since this is 1 of only 223 (Silver + 6sp + nav) and being the last model year that the resale value would remain higher than the typical CL.

I remember the last model year of the Acura Legend Coupe ('94 i think..) held a very high resale value years later. I recall seeing one in '99 that was 6sp and only 45K miles priced over $20K, which I thought was amazing for a 5 year old car.

I suppose if I want anything over $18K I just need to hold out for the 'right buyer' who will appreciate the rarity of this model or reconsider my price point

All this crap is just my opinion... so hopefully you can find a buyer who will pay you more then KBB, Edmunds, Nada values the car at and you can prove me wrong

Rare and Desirable are 2 different things... Malaria is pretty rare now, but it's definitely not desirable... The fact that you have navi, is a big help, as many people (for whatever reason), are only looking for the navi 6spds.

I've had this discussion years ago, and we all agreed that finding that special buyer for a 6spd is what will be the most challenging part of selling...

Price it competetively, and don't panic if it hasn't sold in 3 months... You will be looking for that person who needs your car at any price. Don't expect the cheap bastards on the forum here to pay a premuim price either...

Thanks, you're making my point...

A 95 legend was a 40K car when new, so after 5 years the car was worth $20K... that's 50% of the value after 5 years.

You thought this was amazing...

Using the same logic, your CL should be worth $15.5K after 5 years... (1/2 the value of original MSRP)...

Selling it for 15.5K would be amazing using this logic, so getting 18K for it would be beyond amazing...

Oh, here's the KBB private sale listing for a 59K mile CLS 6spd with Navi in my zipcode:

Code:
Excellent $17,025

Good $15,920

Fair $14,495
EDIT: I do think that maybe 5 years from now, low mileage 6spds are probably going to be worth alot more then 03 auto CL's... Right now the CL is just another used car... we won't see if it develops a cult like following like the Legend 6spd coupe for a few more years...

Personally, I think the CL might have small cult following like the Lengend 6Speed but those that have 6 speed CL's are not the same type of person that would own a Legend 6 speed. Keep in mind younger people are buying CL's, beating the crap out of them like it is a BMW M3 and expect them to last, or wrecking the cars.

I think only individuals who have owned these cars from the date of purchase will really appreciate them. This is my second CL-S 6 speed, which I bought used in April 2006. My first on was stollen while on vacation in South Florida by a 22 year old in February 2006, and of course totalled my car. I was the original owner and the car had only 42K miles.

Unfortunately, the CL-S 6 speed won't have the following like the Toyota Supra from 1993 to 1998 model years.

Do you know a lot of people that beat on M3's? The CL is in a completely different league IMHO. The biggest difference factor between the two is FWD vs. RWD. RWD > FWD = M3 > CL hands down. The CL can't compete however, I love both cars for diffferent reasons altogether.
