Just got a K&N replacement filter element for my CLS. I noticed that it has about half the surface area of the stock filter. The stock filter is about 2 inches thick (fold height) and the K&N is about 1 inch thick. I know the K&N material flows better, but with half the surface are am I gaining anything? Anyone have experience wiht this?

They only thing you gain with a K&N drop in filter is the million mile warrenty. You get basiclly no power gains, you just never have to repace it

you'll gain a little power from it. Your gas mileage will also improve

Okay, then maybe it is worth it for the mielage and maybe a slight power gain to boot. I did not go with an entire airbox replacement because I was worried that I would not like the increased noise.

if you want extra power, remove the resonator and reset the battery. it will increase the air flow to your K&N filter.

1000 dollars says the k&n doesnt improve 23 hp to the wheels, much less at crank.

How much louder without the resonator? I have the K&N drop-in and I have only noticed a marginal improvement in gas mileage. As for HP or torque I couldn't tell one way or another.
