Question K&N Filter Install Help

I'm having some issues getting the K&N filter in. Unlike the factory filter, it's not angled so I can't seem to get the tabs on the engine side through the holes with the filter in. Is there a trick to it? I even tried putting the filter in the top of the airbox cover and then putting it on but I still can't get the tabs in. There's not a whole lot of room. Is there an advantage to removing the airbox (and is it just a matter of removing the bolt just above it (towards the cabin)? Any help other K&N users can give me would be great. Thanks.

Hey, I had the same problem just try and force it in. Its going to take a while but you will get it. P.S. I removed my K&N filter, dirt was getting around it and it ended up cloging up my Idle Air Control Valve. Just something to think about, if I didnt have a extened warrenty it would have cost me $520.

Do you think it just wasn't sealed good or do you think it's not able to seal well?

I didn't think there was a trick... I wasn't easy tho', but it wasn't impossible either....

Don't force it. Alot of members have broken a tab trying to force it in. You have to be gentle but wiggle the airbox top around a bit to get everything to line up...

I spent about 5 minutes trying to get the cover back on, but maybe I was lucky... It actually took me longer to find my socket then it did to get the cover back on..

You got the right filter, right ?? 33-2178 ?? I beleive there's another one out there (33-2133 is for CL-P)

make sure you have the right filter. Shucks gave me the non type s version and it didnt fit... I took it back and they gave me the right one and it fit perfectly.

good luck

Yeah I have the 33-2178 and it fits the space perfectly (it doesn't have the little notches in for the screws like the factory filter has). Why do you need the socket? Have you had any issues with dirt getting past it?

Just play with the lid. Push it down hard & try to get the clips in. The rubber seal is a little thicker then the box ends like. That's what is causing the hard fitment. But it does fit & will go on. Also after it's on for a while the rubber will settle down & the next time you need to remove it it will be easier to get back on.
