K and N drop-in filter

I finally picked up my CL-S this weekend after waiting for way too long to get it. . .the thing smokes! I wonder if anyone knows anything about the simple drop in air filters for it. My fiance's not too keen on me putting a short ram or CAI on it (it's our everyday car), but i can sneak the drop in by her. . .does anyone have one in and have any input on it? worth it? any noticeable difference in feel? I used to have a Probe GT with an intake and exhaust. . .so i'm dying to start modifying this beast. . .also, seeing as the car is brand new and i'm still in the "breaking in" period, does anyone know if it makes sense to wait? will the intake filter exchange alter the way the engine breaks in?

thanks in advance for any help!

For the Type S you need Part Number K&N 33-2178.

ha ha ha! Sounds familiar! My fiance' is against me modifying my car too. As you can tell by the sig file it is already too late! I had OBX headers done this weekend and she just looked at me and said, "you know I think this is silly, right?". Oh well. It is my car and even though it is a daily driver, it is MY daily driver! If anything goes wrong with the car related to the mods and isn't covered under warranty I will most certainly hear about it!!!

I bet a lot of people around here that modded their cars use them as daily drivers.

Welcome to the forum. Be careful, it is addictive.

thanks

thanks guys. . .

got the part number, and the advice with the "other half" is well taken. . .

any word on whether settling for the drop-in filter instead of going all out with a full intake exchange will make a noticeable difference in terms of power, throttle response, etc ?? and any suggestions about the break in period on the engine?

The only real advantage of the K&N is that it is reusable and of decent quality. I would not expect gains in HP or MPG.

Real gains are made with a complete aftermarket intake such as CAI, IceBox, or short ram. You may get a mile or two increase in highway MPG, but this will be offset by your likelihood to step on the gas and hear the VTEC sing.

I'm probably going to change to a Comptech Ice Box come springtime.

Click on the link in my signature for Chod's CL FAQ -- a lot of your questions (part numbers, suppliers...) will be already answered there.

And, welcome to ACL.

the K&N drop in is an excelent choice and will provide gains similar to htose of a cold air...you should also beable to sneak past your girl friend the lower resonator below the air box to remove this will complete the gains on the intake side and allow for an only slightly louder but deeper throttle note ....

actually if you drive your car normally, headers and intake will give you better mpg. but we all know that once you get those you never want to "not" push the car! hehe

i don`t know about any kind of performance gains, but for me, i bought an air filter that´ll last the life of my car for only $5.90.

there was an error in the autozone system when the filter was first stocked. the price was supposed to be $59.00. hahaha

If you're looking for the quick fix, the filter is nice. I can't speak to any real power gains other than what they advertise (though I feel 10% is a bit much), but it's definitely got a better sound to it and the engine revs a bit more freely than with the stock filter.

I tried the "I'll get better mpg" excuse on my fiance'. It didn't work too well when I got the springs and anti-sway bars.

I had a K&N filter in my Prelude. Didn't really notice any gains but I also didn't do a dyno before and after. I think they are rated to give you an extra 3-5hp and the CAI or Icebox is supposed to be more like 10hp? I am just telling you what I've heard, I don't have #s to back those figures up.

Good luck.

wasnst my fault at all. i didn´t fix the price or anything. i went to the counter to order one and that´s what their computer said. the guy ordered one for me knowing that the price was wrong and that once a few were ordered in the system, someone would catch the typo. like i said, in my earlier post, it was newly stocked.

hate to sound defensive about this, but i don´t like being called a thief.

What is the big deal man??? If I was in that position I definately would have paid $5.90 rather than $59.00. You honesty is commendable, but IMO, what goes around comes around.... Havent you ever been ripped off before????

whoa, whoa whoa, hold it there buddy, Whats this about removing the resonator? Isnt it there for a reason? I want my car to have a deeper sound to it, but i never knew about that...please explain more...how do u remove it? what the hell does it look like?

Also, isnt the KnN only 3 hp as compared to CAI which is almost 10?

thx
