Just told I need a new transmission

Well, I took my car in today and let the dealer know about the problems I was having with the transmission not shifting properly on its own, almost as if it was shifting to neutral at times. So they took a look and told me I'm going to need a new transmission. They've ordered a new one for me and said it might be 2 weeks or more before it comes in because they're on a national backorder.

I joined this board a week ago due to the very same problem you're describing. Funny thing is that alot of people here view this as a minor problem that's only affecting a very small number of owners. I feel for you, my friend...

I've been waiting 28 days for my tranny. Chances are good that Honda will release me out of the lease contract before the car is repaired.

So you dont get anything back from the lease ...right. You just get out and lose anything you put down or into it.

Fawk!!! Me too....dammit...I thought I had avoided the tranny plague too!!! Did your check engine light and VSA lights light up???
Would it lag before the tranny would shift...like as if the clutch were slipping??
Rev without you gassing it??
Oh well, I'll find out today. The service manager actually told me that it might be the TCM(transmission control module...the tranny computer.) Made sense...as the tranny didn't seem broke...but erratic and out of control.

These are the exact symptoms I have with mine, except mine doesn't rev on its own, just goes into neutral before shifting but I guess that's technically what slipping is (sorry, I'm probably naive here). I'm waiting for my new transmission to come in that the dealer ordered.

I am a bit new to this forum, however, I am left pondering whether these trans issues are caused by poor quality or just abusive owners. For those who have replaced the trans could we be honest and state whether or not you may be a bit harder than the average "joe." I would still argue that it should hold up regardless. After 14,500 miles my trans is like day one.

Well perhaps I should go and put my order in one a new tranny. That way when mine goes out next year, they might have one in for me by then. My car has > 40,000 miles and so far no problems, but reading all these posts, I might begin to think otherwise. We'll see....

I don't think it has anything to do with abusive owners. I beat the shit out of my tranny and its fine. Now mind you, I don't do crazy shit like neutral drops or anything like that but I am heavy on the gas when ever I am in the car.

Web,
That sucks I know you treat your ride like the typical 'red headed step child ' just kidding.. What's your mileage?? Mine gave it up at about 26~27k. I think I took it out to the 1/4 mile maybe one more time than you did. Anyways it sucks to have it go out, I wouldn't want to wish the crap I had to go through on my worse enemy.

I only about 16k miles on it. So maybe I too will need a new tranny at some point in time. I hope its before my warranty ends.
