What RPM did you launch at? With those mods you should be in the 13.99 range. You need to work on your launch. How much fuel did you have in the car. What was the tire pressure? Tire size? stock or aftermarket rims??

Still in cold weather below 50s... I think the Z rated tires A or AA does not hook very well on cold pavement.. I think we should look into heating them up a bit... I know that radials do not need burn-out... but I would like to know if the tire is heated up to hand warm level does help traction?

I think getting these pressures down to 27 psi would have gotten you another tenth gain. 35psi is way high even for everyday use I think. I leave it at 33 psi usually for every day driving.

Well Nashua has a point here. Toyos are MUCH better in the warm weather and a little heat would help. I agree with gravil that front tire pressure is a bit hight.

Do you have stock rims and tire size?

the front pressure is too high, and the rear is to low(serving to help the negative rearward weight shift) and if your tires are 35 psi cold measure right after a run you'll find theyre another 10 psi or more higher i go as low as 20

not too bad, but my automatic CL-S ran a 14.3@99 and the only mod i have is headers/springs/no intake res....im running stock tires...i would have expected lower times, especially with the toyos....i am considering getting the toyos for next year for better traction, but if what you said is true, i dunno, i may go with something else.

listen guys my car isnt fully broke in yet with only 1000 miles on her.my 60ft was bad at 2.376 ok so if i went to a 2.2 i would have run a 14.25 also when i shifted in second gear wow she spun alot so thats some loss as well.im running seventeen inch wheels with 235/40/17 toyo proxies t 1s.next if i got the cold air kit from comptech that would be good for a tenth or so.im telling everyone the six speed could run 14 flat all day with the right launch and ct headers, exhaust and ice box.now if you put on nitto street drags your in the very high 13s like 13.9 so i know what this car is capable of and its an animal.you could def get 2.0 in the 60ft with the nittos so their you are an animal that runs 14flat without the supercharger.when i install the blower which i said will be done in a week or so hello 13.5 or better of course again with nittos street drags.well enough ramblings everyone respond

your 60' times suck.

drop front pressure to 25, raise rear to 45. you'll be surprised at the difference.

i've run 2.1x 60' times w/ my 235/40-17 kumhos. (in my auto)

Mattg, what tire pressures do you run normally ? I'm running 36 to 38 for our twisty runs, is that too high ? Remember i've got 225-40-18s.

that sounds about right Red. as long as your @ or over 35 you should be good. i run my 235's a little lower cuz they are so wide on the stock rim.

drop your tire pressure.. like everyone has been saying. it makes a huge difference.

i did a 2.30 in the 60''ft in my 4cyl 5spd CL w/ a bad clutch.

If those tires are 235/45-17 T1S Toyos, they want a bare minimum of 35PSI to keep from having them show severe under inflation wear.

I run approx 40 PSI and I've seen the result of tires run below 35 PSI -- wasn't pretty.

I've played with the pressures and in the 235/45-17, the optimal twisty pressure is 39-40 front and 38-39 rear (MAX grip).

You might want to try varying the tire pressures in 2lb increments to find your own preference in the hills.

You need to repeat the temps dead cold (Do NOT move the car. Measure the tires first thing in the morning.). And find a section that you can repeat the runs on to evaluate them on. While the tires seem rather happy at low temps and high temps, you should also try to "test"/"compare" at similar temps.

If nothing else, the turn-in improves at 39-40 and a slight drop in the relative rear pressures will allow for a bit less understeer.

Do you have stock rims and tire size?

1. 225/40-18's have a smaller front-to rear footprint.
2. The track surface and what's on the surface will have a huge impact on times.

In other words -- you can go to two parallel roads (with different surfaces); you could "hook-up" instantly on one with a few feet of wheels spin and spin forever at the other.

The amount of initial clutch drop is going to have an impact on the tire temps and just spinning them is not the way to go. It gets the compound too hot and the Toyo T1S are NOT drag radials that need to be "cooked" a little to stick. By dumping the clutch and laying down a smoking 1st gear patch the rubber can get greasy and not hook up.

If someone has some Toyos and wants to “brutalize” their car – try a few burn outs and see how they spin more when heated up. YOU DON’T want acres of spin…

)types1967: excellent run as far as stock man just a quick question what was the temp. (cause I've noticed the CL-S and most Hondas) run a little faster when it's cold(I know the whole air density deal) but certain cars like cold better than others(like my old dodge pickup i used to have didn't run worth a crap when it was cold but when it was about 50 or above it was good to go)(that's why we sold it in the month of september) I'd say with a set of headers you'll be pulling a low 14 with your current tires:P

WOA That kinda psi in my tires on the freeway doing 65 and u need to change lanes, the ass wobbles and feels like it wants to break loose. Go down my man do a 32-33 all around. But that is on 235 x 17" Falkens.

No, I got that...

And, it wouldn't hurt to drop the pressures for "testing".

Those tires really do want higher pressure than stock for day-to-day driving.

I wasn't kidding about the getting the Toyos way TOO hot! The compound has a pretty wide temp range, but once they are cooked, they are not going to hook up.

Here's the problem:

He said he spun all the way through first and all the way through second.

So, trying the under inflation won't hurt (for test runs), but spinning through second is not a good sign...

If everyone else was spinning, that would be one thing: a slick track..

Completely different tires with different pressure needs. I've got 38-40 psi (depending) and the ass does not wobble.

Actually, my car gets "loose" with lower pressures in the back. And lower in the front AND rear just results in poor turn-in and lower cornering forces.

I know someone who moved off the Toyos to the Falken 115s (for less road noise) and runs lower pressure now...

Whole different universe...

Dude, you pulled a 14.3 one day. Not all track conditions are the same as you seem to be hinting at but it doesn't mean there is "problem" with the track.

I ran about 10 runs with the front psi between 22 and 27 and the rear between 35-40 and ran in the upper 14's, I was spinning and wheel hopping like crazy. I took my service manager's advice and raised the pressure in the front and lowered the back. My next 2 runs at 32 psi front and back were my best at 14.56 and 14.51. Lowering your psi in the low 20's gives you less traction, because you create a cupping effect on the tire and only the outer edges are really gripping the track, essentially you have a gap in the middle. And most tires max psi in the rear (mine) is 40 psi. So to sum it up, I've found that lowering the psi on the front and raising in the back has given me slower times.
BTW, I'd like to see a practically stock CL-S run a 13.99! Headers or no headers!
