just raced a 2004 530i

I'm driving an 01 cl-s stock except for AEM CAI...played for a second with this nice new bimmer then pulled up to a light together. We came even off the line, but he pulled ahead about a foot because I shifted too early 1st to 2nd...but didn't gain any more...shut it down at about 70 with him ahead maybe a foot.

thought those things were supposed to be quick...I was expecting to get smoked.

You should be able to beat a 530i pretty easily...

I don't know about pretty easily, but you should have "edged" him.

darrinb...let me know what happens with that.

I would have beat this guy if I had launched better and not shifted 1-2 too early.

Yeah a 528i or a 530i shouldn't give you much trouble. I'd like to know what would have happened if ya didn't shift to early.

Advice: Don't sleep on them. They're quicker than given credit for.

I should have beaten him, but I didn't.

So he had some mods I guess because he was definitely faster than me.

There are no mods available for the 04's yet...unless the 03 stuff fits.

The new 04's are supposet to be lighter than the 03's because of aluminum framing or some shit...

huh. I don't know then. is a manual available? that could give him the edge...better gearing?

thats a real hot car though...I don't mess around in traffic so I shut it down when I saw some cars ahead, but he kept going and he was weaving through traffic really fast and it looked like the car was glued to the road.

motortrend.com says 2004 530i 0-60 is 6.5 seconds. didn't specify auto or manual. that would be about the same as me I think.

eh who cares. cya.

stock 01 cl-s lists most places at 6.5 to 6.7...I've never seen stock numbers listed as low as 6.1. I think an 03 might get to 6.3 stock with a manual. All I have is intake, which I doubt does anything measurable.

Maybe I'm wrong though, I don't know. I just remember reading a lot about the car when I bought it and stock numbers were listed at what I said above.

BMW published numbers are typically .3-.5 conservative.
