Remember, mount that sucker so it's straight and level to the road. I see so many people incorrectly mount detectors; sitting on a sloped dash pointing up to the sky, on a visor point at the hood of the car. Bad, bad.

I have the 7500 for like two years now. It's a good radar and does it's job. I have never used a v1 but I do hear that it's very good so in the long run it might be better

I was sooo excited when I got my first 8500. I was a long time Cincinnati Microwave fan and this, finally, was the first decent detector from them in many years. I was a V1 hater and I battled with the V1 gods on this board weekly if not daily (Shawn).
Got my 8500 just in time for a roadtrip from Kansas City to San Antonio in my nearly new CL-S. AND I was able to borrow my friend's old V1 (probably one of the first ones) for some leisurely side by side testing.
To make a long story short, that 8500 turned out to be defective. Somewhere in Oklahoma, it starting randomly beeping K-band alerts every 5 minutes or so. Not a single beep here and there, but full-blown alerts. It did this all the way to Dallas. And the V1 was still in the backseat, never hooked up (it was too ugly to sit next to my beautiful silver 8500 with cyborg-like lights).
So I wanted so badly to use my 8500 but I finally took it down and gave the old V1 a chance, after all I had to make this trip in some decent time. I35 from Dallas to San Antonio is DPS alley and the V1's performance was spectacular. Everything from instant-on to Ka band to long-range detection to my first experience with arrows (what a brilliant idea).
I was so convinced of V1's performance, not a hit on the 8500 because it was clearly a broken unit, this combined with the fact that I had tried repeatedly to upgrade from the old Passports only to find that their product just hadn't improved, I decided to return the 8500. So I mailed the 8500 back to the manufacturer while I was in Texas and I placed my order for a brand new V1 and I drove back to Kansas; long-range V1, fast fast CL-S, wide-open toll road in Kansas, couldn't have been nicer.

I miss my 03 CL-S :(
So who has gotten creative with mounting the sensors/display so that they're not visible to cops or passengers in states where it's illegal?
I say passengers too because I know some people who have family members who are cops and I don't trust them to keep their mouths shut.

Have you tweaked the programs yet? I have just been using auto and I can't say it has saved me, but it has alerted me to potential problems. Be stealthy.
