My car shakes a little anying over 75mph. I can't stand it!!! I tried 42-front 38-rear, 40/40. It's still shaking. I tried to get it alined today at my friends tire shop he said he couldn't because he could not grab onto the rim. What PSI you running?? What else can I do????? The car is straight as an arrow so I don't think and alinement will help but who knows???? Please help before I go buy a 03 f-350!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sick of this POS

get your wheels re-balanced. that should take care of it, unless you have a bent rim.

1. Make sure the wheels and rims are balanced at the highest possible speed.
2. Torque the wheels as follows: put wheels on car and tighten lug nuts by hand in a star pattern. The wheels should NOT get a wrench near them until the wheels are hand tightened with socket (or adapter) for the lug nuts and wheel lock. It helps to put a smear of lithium or other appropriate grease on the back of the wheel nuts to insure they go on easy and “allow” the wheel to center. Once the nuts are carefully hand tightened make sure the wheels are tightened up to about 20 ft-lb (or something in this area). Finally tighten to 75-80 lbs with a torque wrench or TorqStik. You could have a “run-out” problem, so make them torque it as described and make them rebalance the tires as if you were going to a NASCAR event.
You might think this is BS, but I had an experience with a rotation and balance and I got to see what a difference the steps make.
If you still have problems, you should report back...
My story is a few posts down in this link: http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showt...ghlight=lug%2A

Sounds like..
1 - a tire balance issue
2 - one or more bad tires
3 - bent rim
If that car tracks straight, then it's not an aligment issue.
I run 42 PSI cold on my T1's.

Cheap store don't calibrate their machines every month.
Running 40/40 ? damn that's high, on average it's about 35/32 (60% weight in front) or 32/32 .
Remember tires heats up & PSI increases when U drive.

Weights could be stickers & in the inside of wheels...

Tire Problem
It is/was my understanding that 235/XX are too wide for the stock rims on a Type "S" which have a 6.5 " rim width. Was I misinformed? Does anyone agree that these tires are too wide for the stock rims? Does anyone feel this may be part of the problem(perhaps not seating properly on the tire bead?). I would appreciate any informed input as I will be buying tires shortly and was considering 225/45-17 as the widest. Thanks.

The TLS gets the 17x6.5 (and that may only be true for USA models [don’t know for sure]). 225/45-17 would be the logical max (although others on the TL forum would disagree. The exact model and brand of tire will impact fitment.).
The CLS gets 17x7" wheels for 2001 - 2003 (with the wheels being changed in weight and design for 2003 [still 17x7"]). Technically, most 235/45-17s are too wide for a 7" rim (they want a minimum of 7.5"). However, a few automakers (BMW for one) have put a tire spec'd for a 7.5" wide wheel on a 7" wide rim.
I ran 235/45-17 Toyo T1S on the stock 17x7" rims and the biggest potential issue was ALIGNMENTS. The stock wheels + thick sidewall protector on the 235/45-17 Toyo make for a real hassle finding the right calipers to "get on to the rim/wheel"...
The tires got a nice work out and I can assure you that they were seated. I gave them a serious work out...
(I'm now running them on 17x8" SSR Comps...)
