Just bought NOS

This pretty much concludes the upgrades to this car.

I am done!

I ordered the ZEX kit. I liked the simplicity of it.

Do you think this will blow the trannie for sure?

This will give me almost 400 HP when spraying.

If anything breaks then I can remove the kit pretty much without any trace and take the car to the dealer.

Who here has ran NOS?

im convinced.. honda needs to just have drag racing line of cars or something.. seems thats all anyone gives a crap about..

and im pretty sure your warranty is dead now if it wasnt already.. i dont think any dealer worth anything will buy that both your engine and tranny just combusted on their own..

400 hp? You're running a 140 shot? There's a few people running 100 shots with no problems yet. Chances are the enine will handle it, but after prolonged usage the tranny may die. Just take the NOS out and chances are they won't know.

Don't expect the dealer to help you out if your engine and/or transmission goes because of the NOS. If you're going to be running that stuff, I hope you've set aside a few thousand bucks for repairs if they're ever needed. Anyhow, good luck to you and just be careful.

WHATs WITH ALL OF THE nEGATIVITY AROUND HERE?

n2o will not kill your motor unless you abuse it and use it all of the time. a friend of mine has a 92 legend with an 80 shot on it and 200k on the clock and no problems!

Better to be negative and take precautionary steps than to act like a 6-year old kid and blow the motor.

By the way if it's a ZEX kit don't call it NOS. You sound like a idiot that gets all his ideas from the Fast And The Furious.

I think he has H/I/E too(thats what it looks like in his sig)....so he might be running a 100 shot still...

If you just bought a zex kit the biggest shot it comes with is a 75 shot. So 400 HP sounds really unrealistic. I have a '98 2.3 CL automatic and I'm using the 75 shot. I have had no problems with the tranny or anything else for that matter after months of use.
Your warranty is pretty much void. If you take your car to a dealer and he suspects that abuse or neglect was the source of a problem he will notice you were running a nitrous system even if you take it out.
Automotive nitrous has an extra additive that has been added to prevent people from using it for "recreational" purposes. This additive leaves a yellow film or dust like appearance on engine parts (cylinder walls etc.). So if the dealer knows what to look for they'll know what’s up.
Nitrous does not = breakage. Abuse does = breakage. After months of using nitrous I haven’t had a single problem. My car is running perfect. With proper maintenance you won't have a problem. Now if you start using a 10 lbs. bottle a day that’s when problems start happening.
In any case use it safely and you have lots of fun. You'll be surprised how much faster your car will run.

The kit has 3 levels 25 50 75 hp

I will start out with the 50 shot.

I am not worried about the motor. Those motors are plenty stong. The trannie that is something different. The trannie is my only true concern. I have 6000 miles on the car and so far it runs flawless.

Not being afraid to take risk is WHY I have so much money and power.

You might want to try it one day.

Never mind, keep being afraid to try anything, you would make a great employee for me.

I was using NOS as a generic term. I felt it was universally accepted at this point. I think most poeple on this board understood what I was saying.

Sorry but I'm one of those people that hate it when nitrous is just called NOS, although NOS must be happy (damn Fast & Furious!!). Anyway you shouldn't have any problems with your engine from running even the 75 shot. The tranny should also hold up but I wouldn't put much trust in it. You may want to look into a torque converter upgrade. I think somebody on this board grilled out an answer from a dealer that the problem with some of the busted trannys was the torque converter. Don't know how credible that is so I would check around before you drop the cash.

Most dealers will run a compression check if everything comes back normal then they will usually hypothesize on the problem with out taking the engine apart. Of course if they do and they find traces of that yellow dust(if that is true), then you are screwwwwwweeeeddd Minus $6,000.

So you have never used the terms Kleenex, Rollerblade or Xerox when facial tissue, inline skates and photocopy would have been more appropriate?

The "yellow" stuff they put into NOS is sulfer dioxide and it smells like rotten eggs.

Exactly....if anyone has ever taken a marketing class...they will know that their product has reached the ultimate level of branding when the name of their product is used in generic terms throughout the industry. Coke is another name that is used in generic terms.....or Tylenol which is just Acetaminophen....also it is much easier to say..

I believe that they do add something to discourage people from using their nitrous (notice proper generic term useage here) for other than automotive purposes.

However I would bet my money it leaves no residue inside the engine. Do you think racers would use it for high-dollar race engines if it did? I don't think so. I have never read any articles that ever mentioned it.

If anything blows I can remove the kit. The only thing that would show would be the hole in the plastic intake tube. I would just buy another to replace it with before I had the car towed in.

Hey 01blkCL-S
$$$$$$$$$$$$,

I see you went with the ZEX kit (excellent choice). You should be ok with a 55 shot but I would not try to push a 75 shot (trust me). Our trannys cannot handle more than 360 HP at the crank. If you have I/H/E or just I/H you are already pushing around 300 w/o nitrous. With a 55 shot you will be pushing around 355 hp at the crank. At this level you will be damn fast & still within your "safe zone". I have been running a 55 shot now for about 5 months without a problem. It's not worth taking the "extra risk" for an extra 10 or 20 hp.

If you stay in the 55 hp range & you don't spray it at every other light, then your tranny should hold up. If you abuse it then you could have problems sooner than you would like. As far as your warranty goes you will need to remove the kit should you have any problems. The dealer would have no reason to check your engine for traces of nitrous if you have a tranny problem because tranny failures are not uncommon.

I see you are in Palm Beach County, maybe we can get together & run it when you get your ZEX installed. Good luck & enjoy

wait...so, if you're bankin so hard...why the hell do you even waste your time with a CL? also, shot does not equal hp. and how do you figure you'll be at 400hp? even if at that...have fun with the torque steer

I've had a zex kit with a 75 shot on my '98 2.3 cl for almost a year. I havent had a single problem at all. How do you figure that a v6 can't take a 75 shot when my 4 cylinder can???

Good question. Your 1998 2.3 CL comes stock with 150 hp. Even if you add I/H/E you may be up to 175 HP(approximately). So you see 150 HP stock + Bolt ons 25 hp (and I'm being generous here) + 75 hp Nitrous = 250 HP at the crank. The total HP at the crank for your car is less than our car stock (260 HP). Even though you have a 4 cylinder engine & we have a V6, believe it or not, the transmission on our car is just marginally stronger than yours.

Now, on the other hand take a 3.2 CL-S with 260 HP + 40 hp (I/H) + 75 hp of nitrous = 375 HP at the crank (about 125 hp more than your car) . So even though you are spraying 20 HP more than I am, you are putting a great deal less total hp strain on your transmission. If you read my post "carefully" you will see I said that "Our trannys cannot handle more than 360 HP at the crank"
In the end, what matters is the total amount of HP being put on the transmission not the amount of nitrous added to the engine.

BTW: Nice setup you've got there.

I didn't know that the 2nd gen CL had crappy trannys. Thanks for the compliment on the setup. I see you live in South FL. You ever make it to the races in Miami? I would be down to run it sometime if you were up to it. I would love to see how my car would hold up against a 2nd gen CL.

I live in Sunrise (about 5 min for the National Car Rental Center). I don't go to the races Miami because I heard the cops are really cracking down on them & I just don't feel like getting arrested. Do you ever go to Moroso? I was thinking of going soon & you would be more than welcome to come with. I will run you just to see the difference. How do you hold up with a first gen 3.0?

I am going to Moroso whenever the next Test and tune day is. If you know when the next test and tune day is let me know. I heard they closed for a while due to renovations. Yeah cops in Miami a really starting to crack down.
About the 3.0 CL I can beat them easy. I have a video of me beating a 3.0 by atleast 5 cars. If you want to see it let me know and I'll post up the website its on.
I imagine you CL must be running high 13's. I've never taken my car to track but my guess is low 14's.
