Just bought my CL

Whats up guys, I just bought a 6spd CL this past friday, I am trying to figure out what my first mods are going to be, I cant spend that much on mods in the first year because I need to pay my insurance off first. So any recommendations would be appreciated. I'm waiting for a nice day to take some pictures.

Welcome to the forum! Congrats on your 6spd purchase, definitely a good choice. Post pics of your new baby when you get a chance, we love seeing new member rides.

As far as mods go, I'm not sure how much exactly you'd want to spend this first year, or what's priority to you (power, suspension, aesthetics, or audio), but there are quite a few things you can do with under $500 to a CL.

I'd recommend going with a Comptech Icebox cold air intake as your first mod. It runs about $270 and will give you about 12whp peak, but the true beauty of it is that it gains hp/tq across the entire rpm range so it's good for more low end grunt.

I'm with viscous on this one...it all depends on how much you want to spend and you're looking to get out of your CL. Me personally, I probably spent more on parts than i did on car payments and I just got it last April. Personally, I was debating on what I wanted out of my car and how much i was willing to pour into it. So far, my mods cost me a lot less (since i bought them used) than it would have to buy all new, (definitely keep an eye on the black market section). If you're not wanting to spend more than $1000 on it , definitely get a cold air intake or comptech ice box and definitely save up for some headers!!!

Where are you located and how much is your auto insurance? I was paying 6k a year at one point.

I am from NJ and I am paying about 3k a year. I think I will spend about 500 for the first year, 1k at the most. I definitely want to add some performance to the car and I have heard Comptech is the way to go in the department, but I will probably have to wait until next year for the headers. Are there any reputable websites that you guys can recommend for aftermarket products.

check the black market and group buy sections in Acurazine first...pretty much the best prices you're gonna find. Comptech is definitely the way to go if you can afford it.

Congrats on the CLS 6MT purchase. I've had mine for nearly 3 yrs and still loving it. As for mods and considering your budget, go with stiffer sways and a CAI first. That will give you a little better handling and a little more power. Then when you can afford it, do lower springs with better struts, followed by a BBK, followed by header/exhaust and ultimately a SC.

I already started looking into a CAI, and I am definitely going with the Comptech Icebox. As far as suspension goes, I think I am going to wait until next year to do that, because I want to get the Tein SS coilovers.

You're only 18. Take your time with the mods and don't go into debt over a car(like a few people I know). It's great just to have a car like yours at 18. I'd be envious if I were your age again.

Screw the intake....save your money and get headers...the single most powerful item for the CL...

And no one will know you have it....everyone can hear an intake...

true. but you can just buy the K&N air filter that fits in the icebox and you have that more aggressive sound. do it!

no more than $34 at AJUSA.com. free shipping too. for the Icebox it's part# RU-2590. i'm not sure what it would be for the stock box or others.

Heh, I lived in Eastwick for all my life and just moved to Edison in May of 05. I'll def. be game for that Englishtown Event. Hopefully by then I'll be heavily modded If I can find someone selling their comptech shit.
