hi...i just bought an 03 cl-s this past wkend. now i'm hearing this weird whinning noise at start up. it also comes on when i shift to "drive" and lightly step on the gas pedal. usually the noise comes up twuce then it goes away. anyone have this problem? btw, it's an auto.

It's the ABS system charging up ... don't worry about it.

hmm...could be since i do feel some light vibration on the brake pedal. but that's kinda odd. i didnt know ABS makes that kinda noise.

yeah what your describing is the ABS system charging at startup. although its not really a whining noise, its more of a buzzing in my opinion .. and it doesnt happen at the actual startup, just after your put it in drive and start moving.

Does it happen just at startup's after the car's been cold and sitting for a while? It usually doesnt happen at warm startups .. when the car's been driven for a few hours, sits for 5 mins, then gets started up again ..

This will sound funny but... i always thought it sounded like the the shocks were
being slightly adjusted (air) after i started rolling... Doh!... Never thought much
about it... So, now i know! Thanks!

noobs! Just kidding. Its normal and should happen everytime the car starts up. Once when you put it in drive and another when you start rolling at about 10mph. Other cars do the same (my buddy's G35 6-speed sedan does it too....funny I had to tell him what it was)

Now that i think about it.. I've heard that winding up in just about every car i've owned.
I am that much smarter now...
