Just another manic monday...

I'll try to keep the bitching to a minimum, but that might be a hard thing to do, all things considered...

Some of you probably recall my bitch thread about my "fixed" tranny dying... I'm too lazy and to dig it up. Welp, this this morning it happened. I started the car up, put it into reverse and NOTHING happened. I lost REVERSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I had to push the fockin' car out of the garage, hoping I'd atleast have D5 or something to get me to work. Fortunately, I had drive gears, so I at least got to work. WTF!!!

This is really getting absurd.

HAPPY MONDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...wish it were Sunday. 'cause that's my fun day; my I-don't-have-to-run-day.

Sorry to hear about that. Maybe TLC can tow it from work and drop off a loaner for you.

You should be happy cause they will give you the updated version of transmission. What warries me is that my original transmission will work fine till 100K/7yr miles, and they take a dump and I will have to pay for this sh*t to get it fixed.

Once again, I will say for the record that NOTHING is changed in these "new" transmissions.

Well, there's more to the story...

OK, first and foremost, I have the "updated" transmission. I got a swap earlier this year, tranny and ECU. Acura is full of shit if they really think this problem has been resolved.

OK, back to the issue at hand. After I pushed the car out, and tried to put it into reserve again and got nothing. So I drove for about 10 feet and tried it again, and I heard a POP sound. Only once... And whadda ya' know... I have reverse again. WTF!!!!!???

What a great car!!!

When did you get your last transmission? Was it after official warranty extension letter from Honda? Its true that for some time they were replacing transmissions with the same faulty onces, and some dealers had no idea and were giving false infomation ( that trany is updated and etc).
But I thought that after official warranty extension they indeed started putting updated transmissions. Unless they still gave you the old one? Sometimes dealers have no idea, they just get a part from Honda and that's it.

PS. Hmn, "early this year" should have "updated" version. Perhaps you are right, Honda is full of sh*t. I got 28K miles on original tranny, not a single problem. I guess 28K miles is to early to tell??

Yeah, I could have gotten an "old" one... The dealer just puts them in and takes them out, they really don't know much more than that. It is entirely possible I somehow got an old one.

I'll have to check my records at home to see when the swap took place (i can't find post regarding my first swap), but I want to say it was either in late Jan. or Feb. of '03. Certainly after the first of the year when these "new" transmission were being given to dealers.

Yeah, I'd double check that. I am sure they will first use up all of the old transmissions before they start using the updated onces. They not going to throw away an old design tranmissions They going to put them in and pray you don't come back

UPDATE - Just called the dealer, and told them what I've been experiencing as of late. They're going to get the ball rolling, and order me a replacement today. I also told them that I am seriously thinking about dumping this car and wanted to know if the dealer can work something with Acura to get me into a 6spd? He said he'd look into it we'll "talk" tomorrow.

He felt so bad for me, especially when I told him I got 1800 miles out of the second one. Said this "is really getting out of control".

HAPPY MONDAY!!!

Call Acura customer care and try to find out if you were given the "updated" version(according to extended warranty notice).
I don't think they can hide this information, its your right to know.

I'm afraid if I call Acura customer service I'll make whomever is on the other end cry like a little baby. I'm so freakin' worked up over this right now, I should probably take the morning to cool off.

I'll call them later today and see what is going on. I just hope I can remain calm.

These are my opinions.
'Fixed' trannys do not exist in reality. The auto trans was designed primarily for the 225 engine so whoever builds them doesn't matter. All Honda did was order the trannies from a dif supplier, and they were worse than the first one. It's a design/use problem. Don't know what to suggest to you. I'd wanna sell it or get satisfaction in some way from Honda.

Major disappointment in the way Honda has handled this problem. I don't think the dealers are in the loop at all. Makes me lose confidence with Honda and I've been a Acura buyer for 12 years. Sure they make great cars but the true test is how they handle a mistake or faulty component. For car building they get an A-, for customer service to this problem they get a D- of F+.
They were able to avoid a true recall, and save money and sales. I thought quality control would be a priority, but apparently only if it's cost effective. I feel sorry for the new buyers who are not aware.

Perhaps. But I noticed that the number of complains has significuntly droped once people started getting new replacements of supposedly "updated" transmissions. latest 2003 models are not included in the recall. I don't see to many cases of failed transmissions on 2003 models, and whoever got the "updated" replacement ( after warranty letter).

What are the right/wrong things to say to Acura and my dealer regarding wanting out of this car and resitution; i.e. put me into a 6psd for as little as possible?

Any thoughts?

I think spelling it out as simply as that should be appropriate.

"Look, I love my car, but I CANNOT have a car that is not dependible or potentially dangerous. The same car in a six speed manual transmission will suit me well. What can we do to upgrade and get me out of this automatic transmission situation?"

Of course the dealer has every right to not make you a deal. They are fixing up your car and that's all they have to do...of course, good customer service goes a long way, and a happy customer is potentially a customer for life...

Would a call to Acura customer service even be worth my time to discuss my concerns, and desires? I mean, the last time I talked to them, they totally blew me off.

I think calls to the 'main office' are worthwhile, if only for the paper trail they create. If, one day, someone wants to peruse your records (for any reason) they would find that 1) you had problems, and 2) (HOPEFULLY) they got solved.

Data like this are not only important for the consumer, but for the company (if they're smart) so they can figure out how and what needs to be improved.

Dropped it at the dealer this morning and was put in a '98 CL loaner (better than the Impala I had last time).

The service guy I've been working with was very sympathetic and really felt for me. I told him about maybe getting into a 6spd and he said he'd certainly check on what they can do and call me today. I also said I'd need my sways, strut bar and tires moved over to the new car and he said it wouldn't be a problem.

I'll have my lemon back this weekend, which is quite a turnaround. The wife and I are going to drive the S2K tomorrow and probably take a CL 6spd for a ride this weekend. Hell, I may be in a new car come this weekend.

Thanks for all the concerns!

Thanks man!

The problem is... My wife and I JUST paid the car off and I don't want to get back into car debt. A loaded 330Ci would put me 20K into debt and a G35C would be right around 13K. While it's certainly doable, I'm just not all the eager to do it. This isn't to say I wouldn't but... I'm hoping the dealer calls and says 4K to get me into a 6spd with NAVI!!!

After my tranny bit it on the freeway, I called Acura Customer Care and rasied all kinds of hell. I inquired as to the possibility thtat Acura would make things right by cutting me a deal on a 6spd because I did not feel safe driving the auto. They basically told "no, too bad, you're screwed" and made it sound like I wanted the tranny to fail so I could get a 6spd!!!???!! My local dealer wanted me to pony up $9,000 in negitive equity to get into a 6spd w/ the same payment terms! Now, about 2,000 miles later, tranny #2 is slipping! After seeing how Acura has handled this, I will never buy another Honda/Acura product again. For crying out loud, Mercedes is offering customers who didn't get the promised Nav system a brand spanking new car w/ no extra $$ up front and the exact same terms...now that is quality!

The guy I delt with yesterday in customer service was very understanding. We talked for about 20 minutes, and I expressed my concerns, desires and needs. He agreed with me 110% that it's an unfortunate incident but said that Acura is going to continue to treat this under warranty and that's all they'll do. "We're under NO obligation to anything else." He didn't go as far as saying I was at fault. If that would have happened, I probably would have lost it.

It's really sad...

I don't blame you, I'd be extremely upset to have a new car with a major component design problem, that never seems to get fixed properly.
I only wanted a manual and waited til Acura offered it, I really didn't think they ever would. I was a little afraid of the manual due to the auto tranny problems. The clutch is not covered at all, (wear item). So I could get stuck with even a bigger problem if the clutches are bad.
I've driven Acuras for years and I'm very disappointed that Acura has not handled this tranny problem properly. Feels like they are taking the cheapest way out knowing the cars will no longer be made soon. good luck to you.

And everyone thought, "hey, the tranmission is made in JAPAN!" woohoo, bulletproof!

I hope 6speed cls won't exhibit this type of problem!

Welp... It's official. They drove it, found a problem and I'm getting a new transmission. While I'm not "shocked" to hear the news, I am happy to hear a problem was able to be replicated.

He's hoping to have it back for me by the weekend. And I should hear very soon about a possible CLS 6spd.

Scrib: PC Dave here (wheels). Short and simple. If you love the car, but your hot button issue is the transmission, a trade to the CLS6 is a sure solution for the least money.

Mine just turned 10k, and has not needed to see the dealer except for two oil changes, and number three very soon.

I have yet to hear of six speed trans failure number one. I have heard of complaints, clutch technique complaints, etc, but with practice and attention, the car can go REALLY fast. Just buy the damn thing.

And this time (I hope I have you correctly identified, stay 3" away from the curbs, OK?)

Dave - Are you referring to "curb rash"??? Because I think you have me confused with Spiro or some other Chicago CL driver. My rims are A-OK!

Yeah and it's getting better all the time...

You'd think that being on your third tranny would qualify you for the lemon law. In Illinois it's FOUR instances...

At this rate, I should be there by July.

Maybe you can scare the dealer a little and tell them that your lawyer will contact them about getting your car lemoned? Maybe that will help move things along?

The last thing I want to do is get on their bad side, because they've really been wonderful to me. Service especially.

But this leaves a sour taste in my mouth for sure. What an unfortunate situation.
