A Jetta???

Don't worry, I still won, but he was a lot closer than what I thought a Jetta should be.

I'm on the interstate at night with my girl in a section where it was only two lanes and this guy pulls up next to me (I'm going 65 - the limit at this point). For some reason this guy is pissed off with the guy behind him, so he used me to block this guy in. Well, the guy behind him is flashin his lights for him to move and it's right in my mirror so, I decide to give it some gas for this guy to pass. The dude in the Jetta didn't want me to I guess and he gassed it to keep up with me. I'm like, "I don't think so". I gun it and get in front of him with little problem. While passing I notice there is 3 people in his car. I couldn't tell the trim level... So now I'm up to like 85 mph. The guy flashin his lights who was behind us both is now way behind us. About 5 secs later, I see the Jetta flying up on me from behind. So, I'm thinking...this is the first test for the 2001 CL-S (I got it about 3 months ago). By the time I gun it and it gets in gear he is pretty much neck and neck with me. Well, we both gunned it for about 15 seconds. He was never more than a car length behind, but never ahead of me either. I reached 116 by the time he gave up.

Yes, I won, but two questions:
What Jetta can keep that type of pace with my 260+ CL-S with 3 people in it?
and
What was this guys problem?

your car isn't totally broken in yet, plus once your more familiar with the power range of each gear you'll be more productive

Chipped 1.8Ts shouldn't be taken lightly.

we did up my buddies 1.8t. He has the dp, giac chip, and exhaust and a cai. The car pulls really hard. I'm positive that it would take a stock cls. I wouldn't underestimate a done up 1.8t.

Add all those mods to a 1.8t and you have an easy low 14 high 13 sec dub...IF you can drive.

Didn't he say it was an '01 CL-S? That means it probably is already broken in by now. =) Also, if it's '01 it's an auto... which means that your "familiarity" with the gears consists of mashing the gas... how hard is that? =)

don't know what year it is. if you gate shift you better know the good shift points. if you race from a roll, you better know where your power advan/disadvantages are!!!!!!!!

I never underestimate another car. You never know how much horse power the other car has under the bonnet (NOS, chiptuning).

I always go flat out when I am racing.

Hey guys I have a 202.5 Jetta with Tiptronic. I can tell you, just a chip yields rediculous gains.

Stock boost is abuot 10. You can now spike around 22-23psi and hold at 18psi.

Upsolute, Garret, or APR yield roughly 40hp and 60lbs to the crank.

More around 25 and 37 to the wheels.

I have a turboback and chip. AND IM AUTOMATIC, and ive pulled 14.1's

However Ive had more tranny and vehicle problems then any acura

Hurley, is your 14.1 on APR 93. Just curious as that it one of the best times I have seen for a tiptronic jetta with the stock turbo.

Upsolute I have "the strong version" of the file though for the chip.

This file caused some cars to go in limp, but other would be fine and spike a little harder.

But yea, you can say there are still a little small tricks you can do that are not visible to anyone

Anyways, I have Upsolute and a Techtonics Turboback

Major props for the awesome time, Hurley. I also own a 2002 Jetta tiptronic and have lurked on the Vortex and other sites for over a year now but haven't posted.

Looking what other modded tips have done in the 1/4 (14.5's to 15.0) I just thought my car was just a freak. I have not run at a track, but based on my now extensive street kills (ex. (2) 2002 Mustang GT 5 spds by 2 cars from a dig to 100, 2001 TLS auto by more than 5 cars to 100 from a slow roll, 2003 SRT-4 dead even (mopar stage 1 and exhaust) from 20-90, I thought our tiptronics are capable of faster times than what others like Crass! at 14.6's has achieved.

Oh, btw I run exclusively on APR100 and also have a Milltek exhaust. At $4.99 a gallon, race gas is not cheap, but I hate losing, so.....

Anyway, congrats again for the great run(s).
