Jens or Wayne

Hi, I've been really having a problem with my dealer fixing the booming sound coming from the sunroof when driving around 35mph. I know many people have gotten this fixed. I was wondering if you guys had the kit to fix this problem. My dealer says that this is normal when you don't have a sunroof deflector, and I'm pretty sure that is not true. The problem is that it's practically impossible for me to make it to your dealership because of my work schedule. Is it possible for anyone to put this kit on, and I was wondering if it would be possible to ship the kit to me, and of course I would pay the shipping costs. If it is possible can you either e-mail me at mehra16@yahoo.com or call me at 212-578-6674
I would really appreciate this.

Thanks,
Sanjay

It is possible to have it fixed. Mine was fixed once by Ramsey Acura and refixed by Park Avenue Acura. Go there and tell them. There is a repair kit and a service bulletin. They told me that if it is not put on correctly, it will not fix the problem.

I told them, and they said that they haven't heard of anything like that. I argued with them for a half hour about it and then I gave up.

CLS16- the fix consists of 2 rubber pads that look like pool que tips that go on the feet that hold the air dam. The problem is, the have to be put on in the exaxt spot or they wont work correctly. Its not hard, but does take a bit of practice. I strongly suggest that you have a dealer do it. If necessary, you can drop your car to us on a Tuesday, Wed or Thur evening till 7:45 pm and pick up a loaner then we would fix it the next day for you.

What are you guys talking about? The wind noise from an open sun-roof? Just wanted to be clear on what the discussion is about.

Wayne,
I hardly ever get home before 9pm, that's why I say it's practically impossible for me to make it there, especially since it's so far from where I live. Are there any instructions that come with this kit? If so, maybe I can bring the instructions to my dealer, which is located 5mins. from where I live, and hopefully they can do it. Once again I really appreciate your help.

Do you know where I can get a copy of this service bulletin so I can have proof when I got there again. For some reason they insist on giving me a hard time about this.

Sanjay, (and Wayne)

It seems that the particular bulletin is classifed for the 2001 3.2 TL, not CL. Here it is:

Service Bulletin Number: 00023

Date of Bulletin: 0007
NHTSA Item Number: SB613943
Make: ACURA
Model: 3.2TL

and FYI for everybody (sorry to those who already have this done) -- since Arik didn't know about the booming, you know that annoying squeak when you have the sunshade open, but moonroof closed... ya, here:

Service Bulletin Number: 00032

Thanks, but maybe that is why they are giving me such a problem, since the bulletin is for the TL and not the CL...how do I convince them that the CL is having the same problem?

I did take them for a ride, and he told me that's how it's going to sound since I don't have a deflector. I told him that none of my other cars have ever done this, and his answer was, well not every car is made the same. He was really rude about it.

Wayne,
Since the service manager at my dealership is not too cooperative, do you think it would be possible for me to install these pieces myself, if I have the instructions?

does this affect all cl-s's, or only those made before a certain date?

In mine, made in July, there is sponge rubber placed within the sunroof lip, where the tabs would hit. Nothing on the tab themselves. I don't notice a booming sound, but then I came from an integra that always made noise.

Dude,
I took me 35mins to get up there and I live in woodbridge too. Why not drop it off on a saturday (key drop?) or early morning?

Not a bad idea.
Hey Wayne, would it be ok if I came in early Sat. morning and got this done. I would wait for it. Please let me know if that would be ok.
Thanks,

the rattle fix works wonders.

Now, about that boom sound, is it supposed to be for all CL-S, or only ones made before a certain date?????

As fbazakos posted, there are some vin numbers meaning that if your car is within that spread of numbers you would be affected. My car was and brother, you cannot miss the helicopter booming sound. I also drove a teg and nothing the teg sounded like is like this. If your not sure that your CLS has this problem than I'd bet 13 bazillion rubles that your car doesn't boom. I mean there's no way that you could miss it if you have the problem.
The fix IS simple and a sanity saver.

Good Luck

Wayne,
Do you think you can send me an e-mail stating that you guys have fixed this problem before, and kit that was used. I just want to be able to show them proof that the service manager at Park Ave Acura was able to fix this problem. I would really appreciate this. e-mail: mehra16@yahoo.com

Thanks a lot!!

What is the name of the person that was rude to you at Park Avenue Acura?

I don't work for them I just had the same feeling about one of service guys there and thought.......maybe it's just me.

You bought an expensive car, the last thing thing you should have to deal with is a rude service person.

At least that's the way I feel.

First off, CLS16 was talking about his dealer - NOT PAA. Wayne from PAA gave him the TSB number so the other dealer (not PAA) could look it up to fix it.

Second - why dredge this ANCIENT post out???

Welcome to the board though.

ROFL - Aah, young skywalker - but that was in the interest of amusement, not for berating a stellar dealer.

Yes, I was talking about my dealer, which is Bridgewater Acura. Wayne at Park Ave. helped me out by faxing me the directions so I could've shown them to my dealer.

Sorry that I brought a post back from the dead, and that I misunderstood CLS16's post in the first place.

The reason I was looking for a name is b/c I have dealt with one of the service people before at a different dealership and he was rude then and still is. He received many complaints from the salespeople in the dealership as well as customers who came in for service.

When I came in for my first service @ PAA, I almost had a heart attack to see him. I thought to myself not again.....

Since I have to deal with him all the time I respect him and I am courteous, but inside I still feel he is not a very nice person.

I was just looking to see if anyone could figure out who I am talking about, if you do.....then I'm not the only one with that opinion.

Thanks for welcoming me to the board.......
