Jackpoints strong enough? :(

Hi y'all; Does anyone know if the jackpoints on our 2nd gens are strong enough to hold the car up on jackstands for a couple of weeks? I've heard of people's jackstands bending and caving in.

If they're not strong enough, where should I place the stands @?

Thx in advance.

Are you talking about the jackpoints or the jackstands?

If you heard that people's jackstands are caving in, then it doesn't matter what point you put them at under the car, they'd still cave in because they weren't rated for the weight.

the jacking points on the car itself should be strong enough considering it's probably part of the chassis. just make sure you get jack stands that are rated for the weight of the car.

they are most likely strong enough. just don't do the flintstone mods like the one posted earlier this year.

I saw the flinstones mod =D. Great fun indeed. My mistake though, I'm worried about the integrity of the jackPOINTS. The stands I believe are okay.

my jackstand actually bent and cause my car to fall on the rotor while the wheel was off. luckily rotor didnt crack or bend, but something you should consider.

So if that's the case, does anyone have any suggestions for me for keeping my car in the air for a week or two?

Use a jackstand or another object that spreads the weight better.. so you dont concentrate all that weight on a few square inches

I have really nice craftsman jackstands. I have used them quite a bit, without any issues.

I think a lot of people are confused here. He's not worried about the jack stands. The worry is over the jacking points and if they can withstand two straight weeks of stress.

My answer...I don't know. Sorry.

I wouldn't put jack stands there at all IMHO. I think it's good enough to lift one corner of the car at a time but not the whole car. Why not put your jack stands in a better place? I had my car on them overnight once with no problems when I painted my calipers. I did not use the jack points for the location of the stands though.

use the frame underneath the car as a spot to put jackstands...lift the car with jack from jack points, and put stand on frame.

You can lift the car from under the engine, there is a nice spot to do so. I believe Shawn S, Scalbert, and I did this. For the rear, use the tie-down hook. I've put my car on jackstands for well over 2 weeks with no problem.

I use craftsman pros. I believe they're rated at 3 tons each. With all 4, that's 6xs the amound needed to hold the car.

I would suggest using wood along with your jackpoints to support the car for long periods of time also.

the jackpoints are definately strong enough. place the car on a relatively level area of pavement for stability

TFS - I had my car on jackstands @ the jackpoint for about two weeks a while ago with 4 jackstands. I also used Craftsman Pros -- great jackstands -- no problems what so ever.

Invest in better jackstands if you're worried, but for the most part you should be fine.

just use any spot on the chasis in the front. There are a bunch of good places to suppot the car that are better than the weak jack points. IN the back should be the same situation

I've seen bent jack points, so I stoped using them for long periods of being off the wheels. .

I just got mine down off the jackstands and it's been there for 3 days. no issues with caveing or bends at all. The stands are rated at 6tons...quite a bit more than you'd ever need, but my buddy lent em to me and hes got a big ass truck.

Last year I noticed that my passenger side front jack point had collapsed and I have no idea out or when. So in my opinion they lack in structural support. I've had five acura/honda's and this has never happened before. What the deal ??

don't trust your jack stands if you get the economy version. I had the el cheapo's one time and they just collapsed under the weight of my car, the stands are like a motorcycle helmet, just how much do you value your head or your car, a $50 helmut or a $500 helmut.

I heard once on TV that if you want to put your car up on jackstands, that you should but it on the suspension. This way the suspension is still compressed and is like it sitting on the ground but yet the tires are off.

I'm actualyl fiddling with the suspension (so it'll be off the car). Otherwise, I would definitely take that into consideration.

Would it be feasible to use more than 4 jackstands (not too many more) just to spread the weight around?
