J35a3 swap info

so i read on here that you can drop in a j34a3 motor after swapping in the cam and springs out of my J32A2 motor and it’ll bolt right up, from what understanding? My 01 cl-s has 312,120 miles on it so it would be nice to have another motor on deck when this ones craps out. So is it really that easy to do? I know how to work on my own cars and do head gaskets and such, so I’ll be doing the work myself.

I just want want to know if you can do that and not have to modify anything.

Why bother screwing around with swapping the cams and springs; just drop in the J35A3 and call it a day.

If you want to use a J35A3 from the automatic '01-02 MDX in your 01 CLS automatic, it should be 'plug and play' except for the (#8) water passage and (#11) connecting pipe, on the link below, because they are different on the J32A2. In addition, IIRC'ly you should use the J32A2 EGR as well:

Technically, you could creatively 'rig' the one's in place on the J35A3 to work on your CLS; however, since you are mechanically inclined, transferring them should not be a big deal for you. Especially, IF YOU OPT to transfer the J32A2 heads in mass OR just the cams. Moreover, keep in mind that if you install the intake manifold spacer (#8 on the link below) that comes with the J35A3, you will have problems closing your hood.

I don't get on here much anymore, hence my late response.

No need to swap engines...possibly. If your J32A2 block is good and the cylinder walls are good to go, then keep that J32A2 block and just swap in the internals - Crankshaft, rods and pistons. The J32A2 block is better due to the extra ribbing on the outside and the cylinder sleeves are ductile iron versus fiber reinforced metal (FRM) sleeves. If the cylinder walls can be honed, then just do that. Swap in the internals, rebuild the heads and you are good to go.
