J32a2 vs j35a3
Assuming the lift of the cams isn't so high the valves contact the pistons, you should be able to run Regular fuel with no issues.
I was reading about mixing and matching J-Series parts on a site which, unfortunately, contained as much good information as inaccurate/bad information. On that site I believe I remember a discussion about the J35A3 engines not having the same valve reliefs as used in say, the RL engine, and by changing the cams (or even the whole head), there was a risk of valve train damage. Keep in mind, this is potentially inaccurate information, but it is something to keep in mind.

I can speak on the J35a3 block w/ J32a2 heads. There is no clearance issues. I did the frankenstein in my garage & put 3k miles on it over the summer. Not an ounce of problems. It's a beast and I easily pull on 350/370z in my 03 CLS6MT.
I am swapping out my J32a2 cams for the RL cams.

What spark plugs are you running and what octane fuel do you burn?
Thanks.
Feel free to chime in on my swap thread https://acurazine.com/forums/second-...roject-967294/
Spark plugs, I used whatever Honda calls for. I think the NGK laser iridium?
I use 93 octane regularly and throw about 5 gallons of 104 octane in when I take it out from hibernation in the spring.
If you have any questions on the swap, PM me and I'll give you my cell #.

I'm pretty sure the RL motor will not bolt into a CL due to the transmission mount being different.
Okay, don't quote me on this, but as I understand it, those of us with the 6MT can buy the bellhousing (or whatever it is called on the Honda transmission) from the 2007-2008 TL Type-S, a different flywheel, and then allow the bolting in of the RL or the 2007-2008 TL Type-S motors. There may be a bit more to it than this, but I believe what I wrote is close.

Mainly looking for drop in and bolt ons.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure those engines are DBW. If that's the case, you might be best off with a J35A3 block and the heads from a J32A1 or J32A2.

The answer to your 'piston/valve clearance' question regarding J32a2 heads on a J35a3 is in post #8 by someone who has actually done it.
In turn, he states that he's eventually installing the (I guess) 'more aggressive' cam of the RL but does not mention what year. With the 'search function' you can find it for sure. With all of that, perhaps he's close to your 300 whp goal?

If you click on that little J35a3 'tag' below you will instantly find 32 threads in one shape or form discussing j35a3's. Hopefully the RL cam year info can be found there.
