It's here - Icebox Intake

Well i've been checking comptech's site everyday to see if the intake showed up and today it did. But unfortunately it says this one doesn't fit the Type-S. :'(

Well at least some of us can be a little happier.

I thought about it, but for one thing, the difference in hp is +5 hp between the comptech and the AEM. So the comptech's got better gain over stock. And it's already hard enough squeezing a lot of power out of our car's for relatively cheap prices. so the comptech intake is the best bang for your buck if you think about it.

oh well, i guess i'll have to wait for the type-s version intake to come out but at least everyone else with the base model can be happy.

slyraskal,

I dunno, I think I'lll wait a bit till someone posts a dyno compared to stock/AEM/CT. I feel as though CT has a tendency to strech things out a bit.

Just spoke with CompTech and they said they will have the Icebox for the CL-S in a few months or less. No hp gain figures as yet.

No they already have one for the TypeS but it had an annoying resonance during idle because of the construction of the manifold. The CLP doesn't have the same manifold.

actually the comptech intake add's more power than the AEM, and is quieter, so it's the opposite of what you think.

here is the dyno of the icebox intake on a cl-s (please take it with a grain of salt since it is a dyno from comptech)

http://www.comptechusa.com/images/dy...spd_icebox.pdf

and here is a copy of an email they sent me answering a question i had about why its taking them so long to develop the intake for the cl-s:

The noise issue was a resonance that happened at idle only on the Type S
cars. Apparently the reason we had it on our intake and it wasn't on the AEM
was due to difference in the length of the tubes. Once you were above idle
it went away. In general, our Ice Box intakes are much quieter than any cold
air intake that uses an exposed filter element. Ours doesn't have that WOT
scream either. Just last Friday we finished doing test fitting on the
different cars and have given the OK to the company that does the
roto-molding for us. I hope to be shipping 6-speed intakes in a couple weeks
but that is dependant on when we receive the molded pieces and getting them
thru production. I appreciate your patience while we fixed this noise issue.
Our engineering staff spent alot of time analyzing the sound and developing
a solution for it.

so as you can see, there's more to the comptech intake than you think.
