It's A LOT lighter so it uses less hp for the motor to turn. This results in more power making to the wheels where it counts.

hahahahahahah i just got my underdrive insalled with new belts, and wow oem pulley is discusting, its so huge and heavy. i wouldve never thought it was that big, ur probably weights 1/3 of the oem pulley. i didnt drive much yet just around the block but i definitely feel some ponies released in the low end. haha nice thing to experience

FYI you can get an offbrand that's the same for $30 off Ebay. Several members have that 1.

Bah, I wouldn't worry about it. They are all pretty much the same thing. It's like headers... $1,000 for one set, and $150 for the other. They both do the same thing with the same results. I personaly wouldn't have a problem using the off-brand in the case of a pulley. I would certainly check it over real good before I installed it but otherwise, I wouldn't think twice about throwing it on my car.

Do they balance their pulleys? I know that the UR pulleys come off the CNC’s 0 gram balanced, better than the factory pulleys they replace. I can understand not buying inexpensive headers if you want to save $ b/c bad welds, misaligned runners, bad porting jobs, isn't going to really cause any damage but I would personally be afraid of installing a pulley that spins on the crankshaft that has not been properly machined. I'm not saying the ebay ones aren't; was just wondering if they are.

I guess we'd have to call up the company...more than likely it's based out in china...

I don't know. The ebay ones don't list it.
I wouldn't get a pulley anyway. I want my AC & things to work fully. I don't want to give that up.

Not sure I fully understand, but how does changing to a lighter/smaller pulley affect the function of the a/c?

The crank pulley underdrives everything by a very minute percentage from it being a little bit smaller and weighing less...unless you go with the stock size crank pulley. I laughed when I saw the UPS box weighed 2 lbs...FOR EVERYTHING! lol.

So, will this really cause the a/c to work less efficient? Out here in Tx we need our a/c, would I notice a significate difference, or not really?

You would barely notice, UR pulleys are tested to customer satisfaction...if you are that worried about the A/C not pumping out to it's full potential you can get the stock size UR crank pulley and it will still pump out some good numbers for you.

Check them out.

With less weight off the OEM crank it revs faster too

You can' t really feel the loss. I have the whole underdrive sets on my car, and no effect on a/c & power steering performance. My A/C is still as cold as it used to be, and power steering is working just great....

Great mod....

So you can actually feel the faster revs and more power across the band?

yes, I just got mine installed on my 3.0. Everything that's been said about the UR pulley in this thread so far has been true.

Yeah it revs so much quicker, I got mine installed last night and have to be careful cause I redlined second like twice It's a great mod instant acceleration kills that stupid low end lag. Now I'm looking for that G35C around my way to see what happens

You have no need to worry about that. The underdriving is very slight (15%-20%). You will not notice a change. If you were really worried though you could go with the stock size pulley. Actually the TSX guys did voltage tests and there was a very minimal difference in voltage with all the accessories on running the smaller size pulley.

The majority of the HP is in the lighter weight and not the underdriving. The gain on the J series engines is about 8-10HP. $20 for 1 HP is pretty cheap IMO.

That is pretty cheap...it's almost the same with CAI, headers...(depending on what brand you buy)

The UR S crank pulley is going on this Monday. I don't have access to a 3/4" impact wrench...so I'm taking her down to a local shop that I trust. I will keep you all updated.

-I've tried everything to get that nut off...I'll let the pros do it.

Did you try the big breaker bar on the wrench while cranking the starter half a second trick? Should be all it will take. Trying to take that off by hand is nearly impossible.
