Interesting observation??

OK I was talking with a service rep at my local Acura dealership, and it was mentioned to me that they had to carefully check the part number on the Premium and Type S transmission before installing (ie; so they aren't installing a Type S transmission in a Premium, and/or a Premium transmission in the Type S). Apparently the part #'s are very, very, very much alike (the transmission are also very, ver much alike but nevertheless different in some details, which may more may not be minor, I think the only difference in the clutch plate, or packet :??.

Anyways back to my questions; What would happen if the dealership were to say install a Premium transmission in a Type S by accident? I would figure a shorter life for the transmission, but anything else? This is actually a very feasible (I would expect from what I hear the similarities are extreme) mistake that could occur. Any takers on answering this questions?

well..

Nashua,
Point well taken, but people do make mistakes and with the number of transmission going out and coming into repair bays, it could be very probelmatic and possible for a mechanice/service tech to pull the wrong one. I am sure they both look very, very similar, and it's not like they have the part # stamped in big red letters anywhere (or do they?? )

I think they are the same. The helms manual doesn't say they are different tranny's. In the book it's the same. Could be wrong though.
