Question Intake Suggestions

I tried searching but the search function seems to be down.

What cold air intake would you reccomend? I'm currently looking at the Comptech Icebox, which I found for $260. I've seen a few people here who have it. Do you like it? Will it work with the throttle body spacer?

Any other CAIs I should take a look at?

One last question to the people using the P2R plenums:

What other mods have you done to the car? Would it be worth it for me with just a tb spacer, cai, and headers? Is tuning required?

Thanks in advance. Ill try searching again tomorrow as long as it works.

I really liked my AEM CAI when I had my CL. The icebox is quieter, though, so if you're looking for more of a "sleeper" CAI, get the icebox.

Boils down to 2 options....
Noise or no noise
The icebox is quiet, The AEM or Injen CAI's are loud & make loud engine nosies at high RPM & when vtec hits. Some like it, some don't.
Any of them will work fine with a TB spacer with just a little trimming of the intake tube.
If your just running bolt on's a tune is not needed. You can get a few more HP by a tune after all the mods though.

Or you can get the ebay CAI fromt he seller XRteam and also buy an AEM dryflow filter or K&N filter. Thats what I did...it's the same thing as an AEM intake minus the name for $110 all together

And without all that R&D and engineering to back it up.

Don't go cheap on an Acura. You buy a nice car, put nice things on it.

^^^I could add an AEM sticker and you wouldn't tell the difference. It's a freakin aluminum tube, copied from the R&D company

If you want to go there you can bash everyone who has XS Headers too. Just cause it is an ACURA doesn't mean that I am going to waste my money on the same product for $170 or $900 more

Woah, I don't wanna start any fights in here guys

I'm leaning towards the Icebox, as I don't really want a loud car. Thats what the Civic is for

If you don't want to hear it definately get the icebox. You will definately hear the AEM/Injen/Ebay CAI. Icebox will also give you the most horsepower.

BTW, what do you want out of the intake? I'm assuming HP since you don't want much sound.

You should look into XS power headers. They will give you A LOT more HP then an intake.

If you get headers it will be

$130 shipped
$10 on some new bolts/nuts/washers
$175 for installation if you don't want to install yourself

I have ordered the headers and OE gaskets. Im getting them Jet Hot coated to lower engine bay temps. Just ordered aluminum shifter bushings, too. Almost pulled the trigger on the P2R tb spacer, but Im going to hold off for now. Is $260 a good price for the Icebox?

I only had the car for two weeks now and I'm already ripping into it. I got bit by the mod bug really quick with this one!

I do most of the work myself. Too many bad experiences with multiple shops.

Thanks for your responses.

Has anybody ever tried the weapon r intake? I see them selling like 180 with the "ram air kit" which looks like a dryer hose that attaches to the end of the filter. I ask only because it seems like a good kit for the money and they offer a "cold air box" but the pictures really suck and you can't really tell what's all included. Had a few bad experices with CAI and i'd def do the safe route with the short rams or comptech icebox.

Don't bother with that dryer hose crap, like I've always been told..."do it right the first time" so I'd stick with aem, injen, or the icebox, or of course the ebay style cai.

Weapon Racing is a good company. I have never seen their intake for a 2G but a buddy of mine has it on a 3G TL and it works as well as any other intake. Plus it mounts the filter element up in the engine bay like the icebox which makes them so much nicer when you have to clean it.

Basically on the WR is a short ram. Adding the cold-air box puts a box around the filter element up in the engine bay and sticks a tube down where the CAI goes.

Make sure you don't have one of the old school iceboxes with the plastic connections on the bottom basket.

The old iceboxes are FLAWED. I unfortunately did not keep my receipt and the bottom box where the screws go into strips and just turns in place.

I called Comptech and they wouldnt do anything without a receipt even though it was obviously a defect during production. I was all about modding my car and about to pull the trigger on a SCer up to that point. The fact that they wouldn't send me the new designed bottom portion said a lot about them as a company and will not recommend any of their products to anyone else and I won't give them $3,500 of my money for a super charger. Its all about principle and business practice which they obviously don't have a lot of.

Don't get the icebox, the only advantage is it is slightly safer against sucking up water. Besides that you are just paying more for the name.

They are still the same. CT never changed it. They now include a note to antizeze the screws & do not over tighten.

Hm, well someone misinformed me then because when I spoke to Nate at Comptech about a year ago he told me that they changed the plastic bottom and reinforced it with metal. I don't know why he would have offered to sell me the "new" revised bottom since my current one is stripped.

I just remember he told me that they fixed the problem and that poor design of encasing something in pliable plastic has been changed.
