Who is your insurance company, call and ask them why. Maybe they thought you were going to speed and were an unsafe driver. Do you have the ability to get your MVR?

I got a ticket for an unclear/ficticious plates and I haven't seen anything about this on my auto insurance. I would call the agent, then if you aren't satisfied, call the underwriter at the insurance company, if you can even get in contact with them.

Just talked to an underwriter and he said that your insurance company could see any violation, moving or non-moving as a violation and add some points to increase the premium. Sounds to me like the company is trying to get rid of you.

Ouch! The way the NJ 39:3-33 statute is written, it doesn't differentiate between the very minor "improper display of license plates" and the more serious "make or use of counterfeit, fictitious plates or plates other than issued" as far as penalty points is concerned (which is 5).

I just paid for that exact thing here in FL. Day after the fines doubled a local cop pulls me over. He was in the right though. I had the cover for 4 years & the sun faded it really bad & you couldn't read the plate that easily. Usually the cops are ok with it(they were for 4 years!) What did the cop write you up for? My ticket was for improper/unsafe equipment which was a non moving violation, & I cut the ticket in half by having a cop sign the ticket that the plate cover was off the car. Non moving vilotaions should not tag your insurance.

the ticket was for improper equipment, cop said he couldn't read the plate because it had just snowed and had rock salt all over it

Not sure what the laws are in NJ. In FL that is not a points ticket & doesn't affect insurance.

thats Bull**** because i drive to new jersey when i go to work. I have a silver cl with a clear license plate cover. I think the police officer that pulled you over was trying to be a dick. well i wish the best of luck to you in resolving this problem.

don't know if this is relevant, but i'm with state farm. i got a two point ticket and i called them to find out how much they would raise my insurance. to my surprise the woman said it won't go up at all. she said it all depends on which company the insurance is underwritten to. the way mine is it doesn't matter how many points i have. could be but no increases yet and it's been 3 months.

State Farm doesn't always pull MVR's at renewal, wait till the 2nd renewal after the ticket was issued, also, sometimes the MVR's can be a few months to a year behind. I didn't get charged with my PA ticket for over a year because it wasn't on my MVR till then.

i remember a few years back i was driving with my aunt and a cousin, and she got pulled over for speeding. but she didnt have any other points on her license so the cop gave her a ticket for something like this, not being able to see the license plate completely or w/e, because it didnt give you any points.
