Inside information re: Turbocharged 2.2L Honda Engine
At work today I was talking with our scheduling guy and he just got a work request in for some turbo development for a 2.2L Honda engine! The work is for our group in Japan but the engine is a gasoline engine intended for a MY 2006 Honda vehicle. Acura or Honda we couldn't decide, but my guess is an Accord? Perhaps they are downsizing the base 2.4L engine to a 2.2L and turbocharging it for the same if not more power, plus a lighter and more fuel efficient package? Apparently testing is going to be done in Japan until it is ready for its America unveiling, which is usually the case... All I know is it's a ball-bearing unit. Anyway I thought this was interesting considering the recent talk about Honda going hybrid or turbo or AWD... looks like they are already working on turbo powered engines!

They also did minor changes to front and rear bumpers.

A turbo is BAD for Honda. Of course its cheap to develop, but whats the fun in that. Any company can produce hp by slapping on a supercharger or turbo, but only the best engineers can make power without them. Honda, BMW, Ferrari.......

plus, not everyone wants to rev for decent power.
i think forced induction is the future, more so than it already is.

honda makes great engines, but people that do work to them almost never take the NA route if they can afford FI. Also BMW makes great motors, but maxes them out and leaves no room for an enthusiast. And BMW cars are just geared for speed thats why they get shitty gas mileage. Now Mercedes on the other hand, with all the supercharging and twin turboing is a balsy company and i'd take a CL65 or SL65 with over 600 horses and over 700 ft lbs of tq,over any bimmer any day.
also, dodge slapped a turbo on a neon and look at that machine. Its awesome. 20,000 bucs can get you a wrx killer. And i saw a video of a mopar modified srt-4 running the shit out of an m3 on the highway. Turbo stockers rule. they are very easy to work on

why does honda and acura keep doing this damn shit? That accord looks almost exactly like the new TL. They made the 1st gen CL front end look almost exactly like the Accord. Car companies today need to stop blending the look of their different model cars. The new lexus sedan looks almost identical to the new camry. I can't justify spending 10 more grand for a Lexus over a Toyota or for an Acura over a Honda that looks exactly the same as a car currently in production.
Please tell me someone else out there has noticed and agrees with me.

Yeah that's what I thought too... keep asking and asking "are you sure, are you SURE..." but it is for a GASOLINE American car to be a 2006 model year. I'll believe it when I see it...

So sometime last week one of my co-workers excitedly comes up to me and tells me that he heard from Honda (he used to work at Honda R&D) that the turbo engine is going into production in a 2007MY Accord! Again I will see it when I believe it, but that is pretty exciting. We always talk about how Honda doesn't need the expense or reliability concerns of a turbo because of their excellent VTEC technology and incredible power/displacement engines but I guess they are stepping it up a notch. Word is it's for the 6-cyl engine. Maybe a 300hp 3.0L V6... 350hp 3.5L V6 for the RL? I still want to see a turbo K24 TSX-S!! Oh another friend of mine (whos wife just had a baby girl yesterday!!! congrats Chris!) just left Garrett for a job with Honda Performance Development in Santa Clarita so I'm excited to hear what they have going on...

Even if the Acura/Honda, Nissan/Infiniti and Lexus/Toyota were exactly the same, because of all the work that has gone into the branding, suburbanites will still buy them to impress their neighbors.
I would roll the VW/Audi into the same category, but I think Audi was around before VW, and was just bought out. Could be wrong though.

Oh, and you're going straight to hell
I think you will end up seeing a torbo-deisel in the CR-V, and a Deisel has already been promised in Europe. Honda also already endurance tested a Deisel powered Accord with 125 MPH sustained speeds and buttloads of torque, as well as getting great mileage. They'll keep this engine for the lower end cars to compete with VW and Jeep's Liberty Deisel due to arrive (has arrived?).
