the impossible transmission fluid change
the impossible transmission fluid change
it was impossible to take the oil jet hold down bolt without removing my cai.
go that done.
it was impossible to remove the transmission fluid drain bolt.
that couldn't get done. i completely twisted the piece of the ratchet that enters into the drain bolt. i was hitting it with a hammer to get the bolt to turn. no go. just a worthless twisted ratchet now.
anyone had this problem before????
i give up.. bringing it to PAA to waste my money.
last time it was changed was 30k ago and PAA did it. They either tightened everything so much that I couldn't do it myself, or they found another method of draining the fluid.

i hit the ratchet with a hammer with everything i had. it didnt twist until after a whole bunch of really hard shots.
don't think its gonna come off with a break bar, especially with the ground clearance. i cant add that much length.

dude the SAME thing happened to me with my bro's transmission plug on his honda prelude.
the previous shop BLASTED it on with an impact gun. I thought I was going to break the breaker bar getting it off. Had to raise the car off the ground on a hoist so i could lean all my weight on that damn bar and kept leaning hard then off then hard then off then HARDER then Hardest... then finally SNAPP it released.
what did I learn?
1- that bolt is stronger than you can imagine.
2- i hate auto shops, they don't tq shit down properly and they probably do it just so it's that hard to do it urself if u decide to say F them.
but just get that breaker bar and give her all u got.. and make sure ur loosening it lol.. obv
when u put it back on use a normal ratchet and tug on it hard with ur hands at that's tight enough

Definitely going in the right direction. Lefty loosey right tighty. Pushing towards the back of the car. I don't have a hoist to get a long breaker bar.
The dealership PAA definitely hit it hard with an impact gun. Obviously much harder then my hammer.
I had soaked the fill bolt for two days with "liquid wrench" penetrating lubricant and it was still ridiculous to get off. Happy to hear I'm not the only one.

When I did mine I used a 1/2 setup and I was applying so much pressure It felt like the tools were going to break but, then I heard crack thinking everything did snap.
The bolt was loose and lost skin on a couple of knuckles and I don't even know what got me.
3/8" set up will not do shit for that bolt.

I just did mine yesterday. It really isn't hard to do, but the tight access makes it difficult and frustrating! (unless you have small hands) I drew blood twice due to having to contort my hands and forearms through everything to get to those two lower 10mm bolts. They are really long - you can barely get your thumb and finger down in there, and they're basically hitting the lower strut tower/wheelwell area side sheet metal just as you get them loosened all the way! You can't get a socket and racket in there. If you don't have a super long 10mm wrench or a ratcheting wrench, then it's that much more difficult to get done. I ended up slipping a larger box end wrench over the 10mm to "daisy chain" them and be able to break them loose and to tighten them.
