If you don't get the Ferrari, you shouldn't have that much money to begin with.

For your mom? I'd say the SL 55. I hope I don't sound offensive, but I just don't see women driving Ferraris. You also mentioned long drives to Napa Valley and what not. I think the Benz would be a better replacement for an S500 as a daily driver (an amazing performing one at that.)

If the choice were mine, I'd take the Ferrari, so I guess I'm not helping at all.

I envy your "dilemma."

I'm not quite sure how this is flaunting his money. He is simply asking opinions. Evcerytime someone comes on with a question or a statement that shows they have money they get called out for flaunting. What about people who post Should my dad get an LS430 or a E430. maybe to some people that is flaunting. But it's not out of the range for us. but someone who drives a $10K car it might be.

Anyhow back to the question. I'd go with the RS6 but if it's between those two I'd go with the SL55. I have driven the S500 alot and my parents had the S430 for almost a year. And I just love the ride quality, they are so smooth and quiet, and now that you got the SL55 well that shit is gonna move. Pimp Looking car too. Also a lot more practical. Ferrari is a car you take out for show and to have fun with. THere is no room for anything but you.. I still would go with the RS6 and I'm trying to get my dad to buy that he wants to get a 2003 XJR or the new 745Li BMW. But the RS6 is pimp. Good luck with your choices, take pics when you get it.

It wasn't really much of an update, more of me just questioning why you think he is flaunting, he is just asking a question.

Yepp... U r right when one goes like $140k and the seond $170.k.

The RS6 with 450HP and limited 800 editions for the whole US! I would say it's Bill gates cheap Acura... at $80k... It's a steal at that price...

However, I will take one... it is modded to max from the factory.

Sigh...No offence, but is it just me or does it seem like whenever a person asks a question like "SHOULD I GET A MCLAREN F1 OR A BUGATTI VEYRON FOR MY (insert family member here) WHO LIVES IN HOLLYWOOD?!???" or something along those lines look more like a person flaunting there family's wallet than asking a legit question? I'm sorry, really NOT my intention to start a flamewar...but, I just find these questions kinda...annoying and assinine? Topics like how someone whipped a F1 cart or Murcielago with their CL-S are amusing...but, these questions are just plain...eh, never mind. Let's keep this clean. I guess I'll answer this question...

cleancls: I suggest calling a Ferrari dealership and Mercedes-Benz dealership and going for an appointment to see what each car has to offer. It's ALSO called reading and research. There are TONS of mags out there (i.e. Top Gear, CAR) that detail each vehicle...I mean, this is a CL (NOT EVEN A MERCEDES-BENZ CL) board...just how many of us do you think OWN or have DRIVEN a SL55 or a Modena? And really, I'm sure if your folks are rich enough to buy one, they are SMART enough to do their own homework on what car to buy based on practicality and what they really want it for. For the record, from what I've heard, cars that are over $100K are usually REALLY REALLY GOOD! So, really...GO DO SOME RESEARCHING!! WHEEEEEEE!

I would recommend the SL55. My neighbor had a 996 turbo that he barely drove because the ride was too harsh, esp on Louisiana roads. He drove his Denali more. He got the SL500 and absolultely loves it. Since getting the MB, the Denali only gets driven with friends in town. Plus there is the reliability issue with the 360.

While I'm not taking sides, as you see I have defended both. That was one of the best damn points I have ever read. The last few lines were good. That is nothing against anyone just pointing out that the rebuttal was done well.

Well acutally I'm still taking the side of I don't think he is flaunting, just asking a question. But still nice Point there.

And one more time, I sincerely hope I'm not seriously offending or ticking off anyone here...Yes, I know my post is kinda sarcastic. But hey, I think it's the best way to prove my point...

By teh way Nashua..I KNOW..that car is great...and its not out of the class of an SL55 because no one will ever thing about buying it because most people when looking to get a "super car" think only about benzes and bimmers..but that Audi is sicca than sicc. haha but i dont know if my parents will go for it..i know all the stats so don't worry like i said i have done a lot of research..

Haha you are funny, "not even a mercedes-benz cl"......how come I do agree with you?

Well I have not driven both cars, not even in my dreams. But here is my shallow idea. I think SL55 doesn't catch my attention as much as 360 Modena does. I can see at least 1 SL regardless it's a SL500 or SL55 on street everyday if I drive at least 3 hours. However, I have only seen one Modena on street since it has landed on our country a few years ago. This is about popularity of them. If your mother cares more about practicality, then both are not good choices I think, since both cars have only two seats and almost no cargo volume. Yeah like other people say, Audi RS6 should be a better choice, if your mother doesn't mind it being too "cheap". But since she has a S500 already, get the Ferrari.

SL55

You can drive it for miles and miles and miles in comfort.

Is extremely fast.

Is very safe.

Looks great.

Hey, if someone were collecting cars, both would be great additions.

For driving around town, in the hills, across the country, the SL55 gets my vote.

For driving at the track or just in the hills, get the Ferrari...

The 2003 SL55 according to reports from MotorTrend (if stats were not bought) stated that hte SL 55 was able to beat out the Ferrari not sure if it was the same model you listed above.

I agree.

My other “favorite” is when people post pictures of their car sitting in front of their parents “big buck” house.
You know the ones where the car is in the bottom 10% of the photo and the rest is the house and the snobby neighborhood.

I gotta laugh every time I see one of THOSE.

If it’s YOUR house that YOU paid for….GREAT, but don’t brag on daddy’s wealth.

Even better is when people list all these cars in their signature that they claim to own. Guess what, if it's your momma's car, it ain't yours.

What about the maintenance costs on the Ferrari? Oh yeah, guess it's kinda like if you have to ask the price, you can't afford it.

Hey...That's GREAT! You did your research! Then, why are you posting this kind of question here???

Like I said, how many people on an ACURA CL board would know?!??? The only person who comes remotely close to driving a "supercar" on this site that I know of is Beltfed and I would think there are those who would still argue that Vipers should not be considered a supercar like a Modena or SL55 AMG/Renntech/Lorinser/Brabus...And, the funny thing is, Beltfed doesn't own either of the cars you asked either...!

To me, whenever anyone asks the question of "What supercar should (insert family member/friend/pet here) get?" is like asking US (the regular Acura CL members), "WHAT SUPERMODEL GIRLFRIEND SHOULD I DATE??? SHOULD IT BE CINDY CRAWFORD OR MONICA BELLUCCI???" or "WHAT PRIVATE AIRPLANE SHOULD I GET???!??" Well, geez...um, it's like any of us would know, right? You're looking for answers in the wrong place, buddy!

Eh, I think you get my drift...

Exactly, why do you care so much what kinda car your mom gets? Thats kinda stupid.

Come back once you get your OWN money and ask questions like that.
