I'm changing stock speakers..anyone else done this?

I am changing the rear Bose speakers to Kenwood Excelon KFC-XR901

has anyone changed those 6x9's???

should i expect more basss/clarity??

Will it be a blot louder??

i dont know much about bose speakers..

the kenwoods are 279 u.s., but i am getting them for 300 Canadian, which is a REALLY good deal..

and i am gonna use my Kenwood 600 watt amp i have dedicated for them, while stock amp will power the front..

i am doing this, cause i want rich bass, without putting my 2 12" speakers in the tunk..

anyways, you guys think i can sell me stock bose speakers on ebay or something?..and if so, how much??

you guys think that bass with these speakers would be:
a) a bit better than stock bose
b)noticably bettter than stock bose
c)a lot better than stock bose

??

p.s. dont move this to a/v, thanks

i have changed mine. i put on alpines 6X9 because they fit just perfectly. no spacers needed. definitely clearer highs. i don't get much bass out of them cuz i have a sub and i also just use them for sound fillers. IMO, they sound much better than the stock. i was running the bose 6x9 for a few days then when i replaced them with the alpines i definitely noticed a diff.

I believe you that they sound good, but I wouldn't expect the same BASS as you would get from dual 10's.

NO WAY !!!!!!!!

You need to move lots of air for good BASS.

Not a good comparison.

I think a Tupperware container from your kitchen can provide more BASS then anything BLOSE sells.

I dont know man , Kenwood is not real good with speakers and generally not the best car audio equipment. If you are going to spend some dough might as well get something like JL or Diamond or even Focal cause I think Bose is just as good as Kenwood. Just use that amp and hook it up to the two rear speakers to get LARGER sound out of them intead of replacing them altogether.

i paid $120 for the alpine 6x9 and installed them myself. pretty straightforward installation. the alpines handle 30 watts rms, i think, and i'm powering them with an alpine amp...mrv-f307 of which the gain i leave at about 1/4 only so i'm pretty sure the alpines 6x9 can handle a little bit more. i'm not sure if they're that much louder. but one thing i know, when i turn up the volume, i get clearer, cleaner sound than the bose. stereo imaging is a lot better. the only way i can put it is the sound doesn't seem garbled or confusing. note: i listen to a lot of contemporary jazz and i always like to hear each instrument and vocals distinctly. the highs is where i notice a big diff. also, i did change the fronts with some infinities (which are also powered by the same alpine amp) and that i think is where the big difference also comes from. i think paying more than $200 for the rears is a bit much, IMO, because, to me, the rears are just for sound fill...yet you want it to be clear so as not to blurr out the fronts. HOPE THAT HELPS!

Yea i think you really should stick with an audio video company that specializes in car audio.

amir, not sure if you got them yet, but if you didnt i can get you good prices. id recommend diamond audio. the bass will be less than even a single 8inch sub...but it'll probably be better than stock

yeah i got them...MAN THEY SOUND AWSOME!!!

I connected them to my 600 wat kenwood amp, DAMN, awsome sound for no SUB!

i used to have 2 12" kickers in the car, and now this, i really prefer this!..the bass is A LOT, not as much as Subs, but its A LOT, and it would foor people for sure...if you sat in my car, and wasnt some car audio freak, you could probably guess that i have a smaller sub in the trunk..

Well worth the money cause now i have my trunk back

I got it for 300 canadian, i did some looking around on the net, and most prices were 279 US dollars...so i think i got a pretty good deal..though i do wish i had seen Mr Tl's post earlier..

Thanks

so how did they wire the amp in?
Did they just take the wires directly from the rear speakers, send them to the amp, and then to the new rear speakers??

And for the amp wiring, did they use a capacitor or just wire the amp directly to the battery?

thanks!!

For 280 I'd go with a set of MB Quart. I've had Kenwoods and they're okay but for that money I'd stay away from the "commercial" brands and even get into the Boston Pros, Diamonds, and MBQuart. I have them all around in the front and rear and it makes a hell of a difference. IMO if you're going to spend the money, mind as well spend just a bit more and get top of the line shit. But in any case..good luck!! You'll be happy to get rid of the shitty Bose.

LOL you asked the wrong person. He would probably confused you more if he decided to answer
1. Take out the stock speakers, drop the new ones in. If you are adding an amp and you dont know how to wire them, thing could get messy and may take you up to "11 hours" (sorry but I cant help )
2. If your amp is used to power just the speakers, you wont need a cap. Cap is there to provide instant power for loud note of bass.

Can you just drop in new speakers and not add an amp? If so what could you get that would be better than the Bose and just drop into the front and back? I don't want to add an amp but would like upgrade the speakers.

Sorry man, with Bose, you don't have that option unless you buy a converter. You get better sound with an amp anyway, and it's really pretty easy to install, as long as you have all your "turny clicky thingys" handy.

Suggestion/replace (1) 6X9 then listen to the difference between the Bose and whatever you are installing. Just adjust the Left Right Balance and you will hear the difference. Best way to compare the old to the new speakers. I do the same thing when I rotate my tires. I rotate one tire from the back to the front, drive the car and that tells me if that tire is balanced before I rotate em both. Smart Idea eh?

$279 American is around $330 Canadian assuming the exchange is around 0.84/0.85 on our Canadian Dollar (Which it is right now)... I'm glad your system is sounding good, but you didn't get that great of a deal!

Someone in the a/v section could probably help with this. This thread was made in 2001. There is a guy in A/V that sells sets of replacement speakers as a package for a few Acura models. From what I've read they are very good quality for under $500.00 and it replaces all stock speakers.
