kinda sorta...right there with u bud...my CAI suks in the hot weather...even at 5K, it's barely noticeable...got the auto-down problems...man, hot weather sux in this car

that's y i prefer cold weather to hot weather...heat works well, heated seats, and the CAI that totally rocks in VTEC land

well look on the bright side.. its better to have it sucking in the hot weather than the hot engine WITH the hot weather... can you amagine how hot it is under the hood on hot days?

Yeah I can't imagine how hot the air must be under the hood. Hmmm...custom heat shield for the pipe...sounds like a project...

driver's side auto-down feature doesn't work in extreme hot weather, like above 95

here's a stupid, spur of the moment idea...split the line that goes into the AC vents and send one line down the CAI to the filter...crank up the AC...frozen/near frozen filter...shrug

Takes more power to run the A/C than it
gains by cooling the air.

I drove like 10-20 mins, I opened the CLS and I could not touch the my polished CAI, freking hot!!!!

However, on the other side, I touched the pipe just after the Cone filter and it was not warm or too warm!!!

The CAI will always get colder air than the OEM intake. As for temps and power...

Each 40º F increase in temp will kill about 6% of your power.

So, if the car is making 260 HP at 70ºF, then it will be making about 244 HP at 110ºF, and will make about 275 HP at 30ºF

The CAI's pipe will cool off as you drive off and different intakes with their different pipe coatings and compositions will heat-up and down at differing rates

Actually... the stock intake is well seperated from engine heat... so air to CAI isnt THAT much cooler in this type of weather situation.

The main advantage you see here is the increased filter area and smoother airflow...

If the weather was cooler.. CAI

Is there a way to wire up the fans to run???? thats an easy way to keep temps down at the track.

A Helms manual and a couple of relays would probably do the trick. The biggest headache would be figuring out where to drag the wires into the cabin and where to put the switch ot override the coolant fans

The temp of your piping doesn't make a huge difference, just the outside temp...because of the velocity of the air being sucked in...it doesn't get a chance to get heated up by the piping....the physics or chem majors should know this.

Hmmm... It may not make the difference that the temp of the actual intake air does, but depending on the thermal bulk and conductive properties of the piping and if the temp differential was extreme, it would have some influence on the air flow temp. Sorry, but I don't know for a fact if the flow is laminar or not in the pipe. Have a look at a heat sink one day -- they start out as very simple pipes or rods, then add a few fins, and so on -- they cool down objects by increasing the area of conduction between the air and the metal. Take this a bit farther, and you’ve got an intercooler…

So, in the case of the AEM, you’re probably right, but your are assuming a lot and assumptions are the mother of all fuck ups...
