If the CL-S did not exist......

What kind of car would you be driving now. For me either the 3.2 TL or the IS 300....

I'd be driving a 92 Integra 3 door, the car I sold to get the CL-S. Until the CL-S came along, nothing really got me that excited. I was considering the Prelude or Accord V6 coupe but I never got that "gotta have it" feeling until the CL-S.

i would've spent $20k+ more (probably for better treatment than what i got with the acura) and i would've been waiting an extra month as i was ready to put my deposit down for a silver clk430 when i heard about the cl-s and decided to check it out.

don't get me wrong, i like the cl-s, but the way i was treated by the dealer after buying this car, sometimes i regret not paying $20k+ more and waiting a month....sometimes it goes to show why some things cost less and some more.

I probably would have gotten the TL or a Lincoln LS V8. I considered the IS 300 but when I sat in one it was WAY too small for me.

Please don'r shun me, but for the price i was seriously thinking about a solara convertible if they were more readily available, the CL-S was no where on my list until I was looking at a couple of used Supras at an Acura dealer, and saw the damn sweet price, I really had no idea they were gonna be at this price.

I was going to get the IS300 but it didnt come out in time, i needed the car before june, and IS300 didnt come out till july. IF not that, i was lookin at eh BMW 323, but they wanted a fortune for it and i said f@ck them for it. I also looked at the Maxima, but i couldnt get myself to have a third one in a row. THe TL was only a choice aftre i was lookin at the cl-s, ther was a primo white tl with bodykit and navi, and was under 30gs i think. IT was soooooooooooooo nice, maybe i would have gotten that.

Probably BMW 330xi or Audi S4. Looked hard at both of them, although never was able to test drive the 330xi in a manual. I was a little disappointed with the S4. If I were buying now, I'd at least look at that new Subaru.

Lincoln LS. Its a V8! Rear or front wheel drive, I really don't care which. RWD can be fine in snow with a few sand bags in the back.
Speaking of the Lincoln LS... How would the CL fare up to it? Could the LS take it? I think it could... V8? RWD? Its almost a refined Mustang. I think the LS and Mustang will share the same platform soon. I'm not 100% sure.
Also, I looked at Mustang GTs and Camaros Z28s, the build quality got me on those. I never looked at the IS3c though... I don't like Lexuses. Lexus is trying to be a Mercedes wanna-be. Almost to the point where it is a poor-mans Mercedes. Sorry, Lexus will never be as good as a Mercedes in my book.
My neighbor and friend both have BMWs so I didn't want one of those. Talking to either one of these guys is like talking to a BMW salesman...
Is the CL never existed would the TL be around? I probably would have gone for that.

I'm in the same boat as MDaniel...if it wasn't for the CL TypeS i'd still be driving my previous ride (Prelude SH).

I mean the 330's are nice and IS 300's were initially intriguing and the S4 is sweet yet dated, however, all their prices are totally unjustified.

I spent probably 6 months researching and reading the reviews, stats, comparo's on the TypeS and the more i read the more excited i got. I was gonna wait till the 2002's popped up, but i couldn't stand waiting any longer.

I'm sure in the next couple years some new cars will pop up that provide the same type of stir in my mind, but for all you get with the Type S for the money...it'll be a while before somebody can beat that equation.

(Sorry this was so long)

Well, I honestly don't know. I looked at a wide spectrum of cars, and none stood out in the "bang for the buck" category as much as the CL-S did. For a rundown, I looked at the following (1-5 rating, 5 being one of the most likely to have been purchased if the CL-S wasn't around):

Audi S4 Quattro - 4
Audi A6 2.7T - 4
Audi A6 4.2 - 3
Acura 3.2TL - 5
BMW 328Ci - 4
BMW 540i - 4
Chevrolet C5 Corvette Coupe - 2
Lexus IS300 - 3 (hated the interior)
Mercedes-Benz E430 - 4
Mercedes-Benz CLK430 - 3 (long waiting list)

A Lexus or Audi S4...to get a decent BMW is really pricey..the Lex stickers around 36K and the S4 40K....the 330 is what 38K (stripped).
If I was going to buy a rice burner...I would probably have bought the Celica GT-S...ITR is nice, but it is hard to justify paying for a stripped Integ RS ($15K-16K), especially almost 8-10K more for motor and suspension. Let's just say, you would never mistake it for a luxury car.

Mike,

I am guessing that this topic meant that, if the CL-S never existed, and what car who would buy in the same time frame of life.

Soo, all these people are saying S4, and 330's, well i was saying that if i were them, i would have got the S4 to begin with.

THOUGH this does not mean i can, cause i cant afford those, though, if they are saying those cars then they can.

No, I mentioned that I considered it in an earlier post in this thread. I didn't test drive one, only sat in a few in the showroom. It's a nice car and has nearly 50/50 weight distribution. So, even though it's big, it should handle very well. I love the way it looks. And even though Ford isn't known for great build quality, Lincoln is much higher on reliability ratings.

As for your earlier post about the Mustang and LS being put into the same platform. I guess it's possible but I doubt it. Currently the Lincoln LS and the Jaguar S Type share the same platform. I doubt Ford would throw the Mustang into that mix.
