Idler pulley, How hard is this to fix

My car is makin a clanking sound right around the alternator. I am almost 100% this is from the idler pulley. Has anyone had the same problem and had to fix it. If so, how hard is this gonna be to replace.

Yes I had mine replaced. Honda has the same part and it may be cheaper there. Also, it's cheaper on-line from some Acura dealerships. The whole deal including labor ran about 150 at Honda. Acura wanted about 180 for the same job. The price included a new alt. belt. Probably an easy job if you've done it once. Usually, my first attempt at anything involving an engine is a disaster.

BTW, I think the part was like 35-40 dollars on-line.

thanks, i found the part online but I hate paying the dealer to do a job that is probably fairly simple. The dealer probably charged you 50 for the part, and only 100 for labor. So thats about an hour of work. It must be fairly simple since it was so cheap with parts and labor. I just need a heads up from someone who has done this job before. Any help is appreciated...

If you have a Acura CL or TL i am pretty sure there was a recall on the idler pully. mine was replaced under some recall.

Actually, its my girls car, its a 2002 Cl. I dont know if this makes a difference. When I changed her V Belt there wasnt a problem. That was about 10,000 miles ago and now its rattling like crazy.
