Icebox question

Long time reader, first time poster. Hopefully someone will know the answers..

I have a stock CL-S AT and am trying to learn how to boost the HP.
For regular highway driving / racing my neighbor from the stop light, will a comptech icebox really show me much more improvement than just a high flow K&N air filter? Also, will my car run louder with an icebox? I ask because I'm confident I can do this install on my own in an afternoon.

As far as headers go, can anyone suggest a good installer in the Atlanta area? I'm at 45k miles with no transmission problems...will upgrading put me at anymore risk?

Thanks all!!

i got icebox. i would get some headers to get some decent gains though, 32whp from CT headers. alphawerks are a cheaper alternative, and they work well.

Thanks

for all replies!!

What to do with car insurance?? Do I have to notify them? Will they try to raise my premium? What if I'm in an accident and my mods are damaged?

You don't have to tell them anything

If they offer customization insurance and you don't tell them you have mods they may or may not replace them in an accident. I have the icebox and I have no intentions of telling anyone

BTW, if some of the shops I mentioned want more than $200 for the installation, just drop me a note. I can get it done in a couple of hours for significantly less.

I've decide to get the CT icebox and headers.

So far, one quote was for

icebox 235.00 labor 170.00
headers 1050.00 labor 300.00

well the quote on the ICEBOX is horrible, and dont get it installed by someone I did mine myself in a couple hours it was my first DIY performance mod to my car....

and for the headers i dont think that is a good quote either....I'd look for some used ones unless you have the $$ to spend and I would go see scalbert for the install he might cut you a deal if you help him install them....plus it will be a learning process....

wow... 170 to install an icebox is crazy... you can do it yourself in less than an hour.

Everything comes with directions.. it is not rocket science if you have tools.

Wow, what part of town do you live??

I don't mind helping out out provided that you come to my house. Heck, I would do it for half of that quotation.

labor

Compared to the msrp prices I thought the price for parts was reasonable?? I don't mind paying for new parts, but agree the labor quote was high. I'm confident I can install the icebox myself, but I could not do the headers myself... I want to make sure the seals are good with no leaks.

if you were just alittle bit faster you could of bought Steves Headers...

the header install is not hard... well i installed 3 of them for members so far... jsut follow the directions.. but like i said, if you have the tools to do the job, I would just do it myself and keep the cash in my pocket.

You're going to have to come down here for that. And no OBX either.
