Icebox installed: first impressions!

The install went well, my buddy and I completed it in 2 hours. I wasn't too impressed with the fact that I had to cut the upper bumper shroud for the Icebox to fit but it's not the end of the world. We had to undo the battery tie down and relocate the battery slightly to the left in order to make the Icebox fit. Also, there's a little brace between the fender and the metal part under where the Icebox sits, which had to be removed in order to make the Icebox fit. We find the brace is there to reinforce structural rigidity since there's a big hole there for the air to come into the factory/Icebox airbox.

With that said, let's set the stage. 90 degree weather, feels more like 105 though with the humidex. I went for a test drive with my buddy (~170lbs) in the car, AC full blast. Felt about the same as it did with AC off and no passenger (I know the AC cuts off under WOT). So with all this said, I have to wait until the weather cools down a bit and I'm alone to see if there's any difference. Track times will also tell! I don't want to "feel" a difference because I'm looking for it... I want to really feel it because it's really there!

Sound is absolutely the same as stock. I had the pleasure of discovering that there was a K&N mounted in my stock airbox. I always wondered why my car (stock) had a growl @ WOT and now I know why.

I'll post an update when the weather cools down!

Though I love the Icebox, the sheer fact that it requires cutting stuff does not appeal to me. Hence the reason I like, and at most times, defend, the AEM for my 6MT.

Good luck though! Enjoy the new found power.

It gets up to 90 degrees in Canada?

Nice purchase though. . Now you're on your way to a down work spiral.

Man. That's gotta be weird. 90 degrees. Hasn't even been 90 degrees down here in southern california all spring/summer thus far.

Ok, it finally dipped down to about 79 now after midnight. Car seems to pull a little harder.

Something else I noticed... the stock airbox + K&N filter had a louder and more evident VTEC engagement than the IceBox w/ the supplied foam filter.

Another remark, is that the car seems torquier off the line. Maybe I'm on crack, but it's so eager to get up and going, and I think a little more than before!

I still gotta try it out in ~70 degree weather, but without all this humidity!

As for the weather we're having, this is really an exception... usually we consider a "hot day" to be around 80ish.

Wow. You learn something new everyday. I always thought canda was one of those places where 40 was a hot day.

Keep up with the updates though. I'm sure it will only get better and better.

It's a little 4X2" plastic piece by the front top part of the passanger headlight. If you cut it flush with the support beam, it looks like it came stock that way.

Still the fact that you have to cut anything appeals to the AEM. I've heard nothing but good things about the CT icebox, but... If I can go w/o cutting, i'd go that route Is that wrong?

Well you can get the K&N filter to put in the icebox which makes it a tad louder... Believe most folks have done this simple mod....

Bet headers are next eh??? For the last 8 days in toronto its been 102+ with the humidex.. With such high temps and humidity, the car just feels sluggish...

Nope not at all. Just like I hate the way the AEM screams & makes all sorts of noises.

I swapped out the foam filter for the K&N & see or hear no difference

Same here. I just dont get it. Some people say they didnt have to cut anything, but some say they had to. What's the DILLY with the Icebox? If I dont have to cut anything, i'd prefer to have the icebox . However, if there's any type of cutting involved, I'll get the AEM or Injen cai.

I had to cut NO PART of the bumper for mine to fit. :wtf:

I did have to remove that little support brace, but I didnt have to move the battery, and the install went very cleanly.

I noticed maybe 5% more engine note, and more midrange power. I like that its quiet too, I already have a very loud car, its nice to be a little stealthy sometimes.

Ok since some of you are wondering what in the world has to be cut, I will snap a few pics when I get a chance and post them up! It's really nothing major, and looks pretty stock unless you know what to look for, and look very closely!

Piece in between the battery cover & the Ice Box right next to the drivers side hood adjustment knob.
