I went to the Acura dealer today......The GM said they aren't killing the CL?????

I asked if they were discontinuing the CL this morning went I went to the Acura dealer and the GM said that he hasn't heard anything about it. He said that he has been to plenty of meetings, and there is only good things said about the CL. Does this mean a new bodystyle will come in 04' or 05'

It was in one the car mag, but what do they know... & GM isn't going to diss an Acura made car (CL).
"There's only good things about the CL" ?

They aren't selling many & dealer & aftermarket support aren't there either.

We're the bastard of the Acura family

It is possbile that the new TL and CL would come at the same time, or if Acura is lazy will reveal a new TL followed next by new CL-S and the year after with new TL-S

Same what happended when I bought the01-CL-S.... If the 4-doors Type-S was there I would have picked one.

No wonder as it was expected the TL-S killed the CL! not the competition!

I've gone between the ideas of "Yes, the CL is gonna get killed off" and "No, it's gonna stick around"...

So Acura only sells 1000 of them a month compared to 4000 TLs. And sales are down 30% month over month. So what...

At 1000 cars a month, that's 12000 a year. That's pretty good if you ask me. Granted it's no 4000 like the TL, but will that continue???

And with the recent release of the Accord, people were saying "Well, with those specs. there goes the CL". And what about the TL? The sedan carries the 240hp motor and we know for damn sure that ain't going no where.

I really wouldn't be surprised if it did stick around. And I wouldn't be surprised it it got axed.

I see the CL kind of like Apple Computer. It's a great product, but the user base is very small. But, enough are sold to maintain profitability and fuel R&D.

My GUT says the CL will stick around... Or maybe I've got bad gas from lunch...

Oh NO!!!!

Does that mean that only hippie flagburners like the CL? Shit...I'm going to start hand painting mine now in rainbow colors and peace signs....

The difference between Apples and CL's is that CL's are reasonably priced...and WORTH IT!!!

Just like the Altima came out, then was followed by the G35, the Accord will come out and a the new CL/TL coupe will come out and blow the doors of the G35. It took infinit time to match the CL, now they did. Well, next step is for acura to up the ante again. When I was at the dealer a few weeks ago, chatting with a guy that works there and is actually on this board too, he said the same thing. They will not ax the CL.

Hahahaha...

Notice my kick ass analogy (my opinion!!! ) mentioned nothing about price. I wanted to focus on the whole user base thing, and you had to pick it apart. Thanks!!!

Anyway, I really don't know what to think, although a redesigned CL would be sweeeeeeeeet.

How close is Acura and Honda...

I mean I do know Acura is a division of Honda, but does Honda really have that much control of Acura and what cars they release...

From what it appears, it does'nt seem like Honda is all that worried about cannibalising their own sales (see 2003 accord...

mkay... No thanks. I'd rather drive a Ford.

But to answer anj2's question, I'd think Honda and Acura are pretty close. I mean, there are a lot of parts that are shared across platforms. I'm 100% sure Acura knew that the '03 Accord was coming out. And I'm sure we'll at least a kick ass redesigned TL because of the new Accord.

I too, don't like the new Accord"s", that includes that gawd ugly coupe !
So let's see, remember, the Legend, then RENAMED "RL", don't be surpised if the CL is renamed and redesigned to KICK THE COMPITETION's ass !

Remember:
GM, Sales Mgr's, Service Mgr's are CLUELESS as to what's COMING ! Their job is to SELL what on the floor ! GM's are CLUELESS whether ACura cans the CL......................So dope....................

Honda/Acura is close............................debateable.....My service Mgr. with my honda dealership, who has been with that dealership for 15 years, HAD NO CLUE ACURA HAD "5" SPEED SLUSH BOXES ! He swore, they only had 4 speed auto trannies ! So much for their closeness !

Hey hey, I demand you take that back!!! Macs are also like Acuras because they last unlike PC's with a GM/ford/chyrsler build quality. Can you silly Win users explain to me why you have to click "Start," in order to stop Windows?

Isn't all the 2 door car sell worse? Even the 2 door BMW 3 series sells worse than its 4 door counterpart right? So CL is supposed to sell way less than TL. Just increase the sportiness of the next generation TL and CL, also improve the engine performance of them(at least make the regular TL and CL surpass the 2003 Accord's 240hp).

I've had my PC for going on 3 years now...it was originally NT4, then I upgraded to Win2k. I've never had ONE problem....not one. Most issues with Windows are id 10 t errors...get it...ID10T? People don't know how to properly maintain their machines. As for hitting "Start"...I never do...my PC NEVER gets shut off!!!

Can you silly Mac users tell me why NOBODY uses MAC's? ...Now go eat some Tofu and hug a tree!!!!

(just kidding, pal...different strokes, I guess)

all we can do is hope that acura will keep a midsized sports coupe (CL or other name) and that acura will UPSIZE the power, style, and handling to TEAR APART the new accord and the altima, maxima, etc...the CL-S in 2001 was THEEEE best car in its class, now the lines are getting very blurred..either acura will kill the CL and just give up, or they will come back stronger with something else 2 doors in the same class or a new CL...i know im hoping for the latter

OK...a fair comparison would be:

Macintosh = NSX
PC/Windows = Civic

The Mac, like the NSX, has a small user base compared to the Civic, but the performance and styling is number one.

One more thing that is a disadvantage to us Mac users: just about all of the major viruses that come out won't run on our Macs We get left out of the fun of having to remove viruses, reload software, etc... those viruses just won't run on our Macs...

arent both the CL and TL based on their accord counter parts? it would stand to reason that if it were based on the TL it would be based on the Accord.

Funny... Too bad you're wrong. You want a command line???

How about gcc3? Or bind. Apache, perhaps???

Oh... That's right. You prefer Windows2000. You've got me beat. DOS is da' bomb!!! :P

Mac OS X is by far the best operating system the human race has created to date. It is very powerful, extremely flexible, very intuitive, and it looks gorgeous. I do absolutely love Windows XP though. It is definitely the best Operating system that Microsoft has created so far.

The main problem Apple has is their god damn marriage to those ancient Motorola processors. Now, the fact that a dual 1Ghz Mac can keep up with a typical 2Ghz Single Processor XP Machine definitely does say something. If Mac OS ran on an Intel platform, then performance-wise, Mac OS X would rip XP a new icehole. Apple would never do that though because they make most of their $$ on hardware sales.

Of course, everyone always says that Macs cost way more than PCs. That is both true and untrue. You could also say that a Lexus costs way more than a Honda. Most people buy Honda-equivalent PCs that run adequately and are relatively inexpensive. If you want a Lexus-like PC with real power though, you are definitely looking at the same kinds of prices that Apple is charging for their top machines...and much more if you are looking at doing case-mods and stuff. Now, you would likely get a machine that is a little faster, with a lot more options, but it would cost the same. Go to http://www.alienware.com to see what I'm talking about. They have top of the line PCs available that cost more than 5k without a monitor!

I have and use both operating systems every day with great pleasure. Mac OS X is actually awesome for hardcore developing. That's really what it's built for. But it's also so damn easy to use that Grandma can get a cheap-ass iMac and check her email. That's pretty awesome that the same operating system can do all that. Oh, and did I mention that it also ships with the best web server in the world, ready to use with the click of one button.

If they had only come out with it 2 years earlier... sigh...

rant complete.

Oh yeah... CLS will probably be continued and upgraded IMO.

Quick Reply: I went to the Acura dealer today......The GM said they aren't killing the CL?????
