I have been dreaming about this baby ever since. The problem is, if you shell out a $1000 deposit now, you won't get it till May 2003. The waiting list is long...

And can you say DEALER GOUGING???

Maybe compared to trucks its small, but overall......its not that small compared to cars already out- the new Mini is "much" bigger than the old Mini.

I saw it at the autoshow and it does kick ass....want it in that dark silver above, with the blue/black leather interior, and a bunch of other goodies (there is a ton of options).

I agree...it is bigger than the classic Mini. You can sure tell that BMW had big say in the interior. That's gotta be the best bang for the buck small car going right now. Plus, it's like a little novelty item. That would be a great day-to-day driver for us power addicts on the CL board!!!!

I was just at a BMW dealer and they have a section of the dealership for Minis. Set in one, thats one tiny car, although it was fairly roomy inside, just that the back seats are useless.

There were a lot of people looking at them, but only one car said it was sold. I think all the rest were for sale. Not sure about the waiting list, but I am sure it is long.

Big difference between the Mini and the PT cruiser, the Mini is actually a very competent performance/autoX car- they are only bringing in 20k the first year. VW sold like 50k Beetles in the first six months of sales.

Its an aquired taste.....I didn't like it either when I saw it last year, but just like the Mcoupe (which I fucking hated with a passion when it came out)- I ended up buying one a year later.

It's the novelty factor, Nugs. Minis have been kicking ass and taking names for years over in the UK. I love the RSX-S too, but the Mini has that certain...je ne sais quoi typical of many British cars (old Jags, Bentleys, etc.)

Exactly.

The old Minis are famous for their handling charataristics. The new Minis are built from the ground up with that in mind.

PT Cruisers are dressed up Neons, and the Beetles are dressed up Golfs.

Sure it is, why not.....there are a ton of people who now like the new 7 series (who bad mouthed the crap out of it previously). I still don't like the new 7 though. I certainly think the Mini will grow on some people, but at the moment its not really a concern (the car is basically sold out for the near future- give or take a few).

Yes, the Mcoupe is the wacky BMW hatchback.

I was in UK a couple of weeks ago, and saw a bunch of the on the road...I dont think they look bad for the streets of London
but for the streets of Dallas might be a little small.
But I would pick it over the Beetle any day....
It's definetly a chick mobile...:-*

If I was married and buying my wife a new car.....that'd certainly be one that I'd propose. I just built one on the Internet and FULLY loaded with everything you could imagine and it came out to 26K. I'd do it and I wouldn't mind driving it around when she wasn't. Sounds like a fun car FOR SURE!!!!!

CLS is still faster

Power to weight ratio:

Mini: 1HP:16.4 lb
CLS: 1HP:14.0lb

Yeah. 0 - 60 for Cooper S is 6.9 seconds according to Edmunds.

But then, what's the point of comparing the two?

my dad had the pen in his hand to put his name on the waiting list. $24,350 for what he wanted. the wait was until september. but, you can't get snow tires, the dealer confirmed that today as a matter of fact. so, he won't buy it.

I read the Mini Cooper does the Slalom faster than the almost any other cars. If I remember right, it was about even with a Porsche 911 TT.

noting the fact that i am 6 foot 2 i would not personally choose the mini but when faced with buying a lil car for a kid (probably girl but i think black or silver is tight enough for guys) of average height id buy this fer em over the Bug. I hate bugs with a flaming hatred kind of passion.
