Very sweet bike! don't like the cheap looking mufflers and the clamshell instrument gauge. I know how hard it was for harley to make those mufflers tho. It was on discovery

And I want this bike:

http://www.bmwmotorcycles.com/machin...?model=k1200gt

I've been looking on ebay for an 1150RT and can get one about 3-4K less than this one, but this is more sport oriented and I like the looks better as well.

Cool.
the Honolulu Police Department just bought a bunch of 1150RTs.
no more running away from the police for me. any sport bike could lose the old harleys, but this bike is pretty quick in the hands of a capable rider.

I saw that special too. That whole issue they had with the radiator design just blew my mind.

Very nice bike!

I've ridden the k-rs... it's kind of a boat at low speeds with the limo wheelbase, but handles really well at higher speeds and is ultra comfortable as far as sporty-tourers go.

I dislike the split turn signal arrangement (left on left bar, right on right bar, kinda like a harley) but it wasn't that hard to get used to. just about everything else on the bike was adjustable, though.

you definitely get the gadgets when you get a beemer...

the k-rs bike was a boat, at the time it was produced (about 15 years ago??). I've ridden a FJ1100 bored and stroked out to a bit above a 1200 cc engine and it gets old after about 300 miles. I'm no spring chicky but I am NOT gonna ever be seen riding a friggin' Gold Wing w/ polyester flood pants on wearing patent leather boots! Yeccccccccccch!!
The first V-Rod I saw was outside the gates at the USGP in Indy (2001). It was absolutely gorgeous. A guy I'm on the ski patrol with just bought one (he has 7 Harleys and a H-D Ford pickup). It's a hot bike, tranny's developed by Porsche. I'd do a Harley but the whiff sez she'll never ride it for whatever reason. The only way I'll get her to go on bike trips w/ me then is to buy the beemer.

Let me tell you a story. First, I am not anti bike, I used to own one. Way back. I'd like another one, but only if I lived in the middle of Nebraska, Wyoming, Nevada or Montana. In short, where no one lives! I do not care how defensively you drive these things, in a crash between a car and a bike, the car wins every time. It is just a matter of pure physics.

The story: Buddy Pete, who, if you have seen some of my other posts, this is the same guy whose MB c 230 k decided to burn itself to ashes while parked in a garage had this happen to him.

Sherman, set the way back machine to September, 1999. Driving a full sized Harley Davidson, in broad day light in the afternoon, Pete had a green light and proceded through and intersection where two four lane roads crossed. Traveling in the right lane, he was broadsided on the right side. The speed limit in the general area is about 40 mph. Pete was launched from the bike crossing the next lane, the center medium (about 12' wide), the opposing two lanes of traffic, and thankfully landed on the grass past the curb. If he would have landed on concrete, I am sure he would be dead. Realize, this is like playing pool with human beings. His forward progress, combined with the side impact actually made him travel at about a 45 degree angle! The cops estimated he "flew" for 100 to 125 feet.

The helicopter came and Pete spent the next nine and one half hours in emergency room surgery. Obviously, the right side of his body took a terrific hit. Broken right collar bone. Three broken right ribs. The muscles at his sholder seperated from the cartiledge, necessating a 360 degree radial incision near the bicept, requiring 200 stiches total, to repair. Broken wrist, arm broken below the elbow. Broken femur, broken knee and broken ankle. Also, the bones were broken between the knee and the ankle.

To fix him, the doctors had to insert 15" of titanium plate in his thigh, and below the knee, to the ankle, he had to wear a "halo" device that had 13 stainless steel pins that went entirely through the flesh and bone. His knee and ankle had to be replaced.

He is in constant pain, now fighting addiction to vicadin, and was able to return to work, in a very limited capacity, aided by a cain (forever) THIRTY NINE MONTHS LATER!

Now, are you REALLY SURE you want that bike? Remember, I have nothing against bikes. Then again, my hobby is flying light aircraft. But, it is not crowded up there.

Maybe he should of taken the MSF course in the area, if he didn't. He would of learned to scan the road ahead of him, and im sure he could of possible got a better deal... He crossed over 4 lanes, and then got hit ?? Im sure if he was scanning the road, he could of lessened the impact...

Don't get me wrong, my bro-in-law was broadsided by a guy who blew a stop sign, he saw the car and adjusted for the wreck, but giving it some gas, and only got hit in the rear tire, saved his life, and that was at a small side street with an apartment building blocking the view, but scanning the road saved his life...

Just because you know of one incident, I wouldn't put that in people minds.. When we ride we have to always keep that in the back of our mind. But the just being out in the wind, overpowers it, by a million....

You only live once, and being in the wind is almost good as sex..

Plus, most of the people that are killed on bikes, are from people turning in FRONT of the rider.... People don't look, or pay attention...

I hope your friends does well in his recovery, and gets to ride again... You can't let that scare you, even if its boping around town.

I hope he sued the HELL of that person who did it...

Charlie: gotcha. No arguements from me. Nothing against bikes, whatsoever. Just a matter of physics, and it only takes once. My argument was that the more populated, the more the odds go against you. P.S. Pete was a cop, and was trained initially, and yearly afterwards. Like I said, it only takes once, and it truely is a matter of physics.

Chaz: No, he did not cross four lanes, and then got hit. He was in the outside lane, got hit, and then FLEW across four lanes, without the HD. He was also a careful bike driver, 50 years old.

Like my post said, car versus bike: car wins every time.

Let me ask u guys this. I am in the look out for a bike for myself. I like the weight of a 600 but feel that it needs more power. I would like a bigger bike but FK HATE the weight. I am a sports bike kinda guy. I've ridden my friends Honda ''97 (Ithink) F1 and the thing is peppy. What kinda bike would u guys recomend?
