I thought this car was quiet?

Maybe it's too quiet, and so everyone
notices the rattles?

I'm working on a FAQ - I'm only through the
10th page of the Car Talk forum, and there's
already mention of 12 different sources of rattling sounds. A bit unexpected.

aside from the rattles, the car is pretty quiet. that's what makes it so maddening. my previous cars all had rattles and squeaks, they didn't start doing it a month after getting the car. and they didn't cost nearly as much.

I'm not particularly impressed with the rigidity of the chassis/unibody on this car - I swear you can feel it (and hear it) flexing over rough pavement and elevation changes. I assume that this flex is what contributes mightily to the squeak and rattle problem (in places other than the airbag and seats/console).

good start on the faq, btw. it's a major undertaking, though. good luck!

Gotta say ... after 1 year and 20,000 miles, I cannot agree with your statement. I hope the dealer is able to adjust/fix your rattles.

had my car for over half a year, but only driven over 4000 miles.... the car so far has been superb, quiet, smooth, loud and crisp over 4000 rpm when VTEC kicks in... the only two things bothers me is one the squeaking sunroof which has been fixed, and the fact that my car's right muffler is hanging lower... from the back, looks kind of wierd...

love my car, and plan to love it even more...

I'm with lead_sled_dog. One trip to the dealer and my rear shelf and moonroof rattle were fixed. I have 20,000 miles at 14 months.

2hr commute on the 405...rather warm day
with A/C on @ 65 auto setting, sometimes low setting...
I hear a humming/hissing, sorta like a low deep sound that intakes make, coming from the right rear side while driving. This happens either when I step on the gas moderately in bumper-bumper traffic

Wonder what it is...could it be the catalytic working overdrive cuz of the A/C working hard and effecting the exhaust?

I'm working on month number 5 with my CL-P and I'm more than happy with it. It's nice and quiet in comparison to the other cars I've had. I think a lot of it may have to do with exactly that, what you're use to.

I have only had mine for a couple of weeks but have almost 1000 miles. The only really noticable noise (so far) is that moonroof flap that some of you all mentioned that you removed. Otherwise, so far so good.

Add one more to the rattle FAQ..

My headliner was rubbing up against the sunroof assy. I had to remove half the headliner, then reach my hand up inside the roof and actually bend the sunroof assy. upward to keep if from resting on the headliner.

Have had my car since 3/28/01- no rattles, no squeaks! 3,400+ miles. It's quiet, fast and a head turner for sure! Gas mileage has always been in the 20's so far with a minimum of 300 miles per tank. Most of that is everyday driving, some highway. Can't wait to take it on a long trip!

There are a few things I'd like to see changed like a radio scan from the steering wheel that scans ALL the FM stations instead of just the ones you have set. That was pretty stupid. It would nice to be able to switch from AM/FM/CD from the wheel also like I could on my 96 Riviera and adjust the temp from the wheel also. I'd also like a moonroof that opens ALL the way! Another dumb thing.

Previous car was a 99 Chrysler 300M- road noise for sure. Gas mileage in the 14-15 mile range. In the 20's a few times on a trip to FL. Never got 300 miles to a tank except for that trip to FL. No rattles or squeaks, but I had a lot of problems with that car. Too many dealer visits for the "Car of the Year!" Over $3,300 worth of warranty work done on it in less then 3 years! Those "5-STAR" dealers left a LOT to be desired. Pure HYPE! I'd NEVER own another Chrysler product even if it was the LAST car company on earth!

Hopefully this CL will be better then my old Christine! So far, so good! NO dealer visits yet! I hope there never are any!
