i think i found the resonator in RES

took off my upper intake yesterday and i noticed something i thought was weird...the gasket has a couple peices near the front closest to the TB that come accross the the open plenum area they dont contact the lid nor do they touch the plenumthey kinda just hand out there int he air and i was thinking these must vibrate alot with the in coming air and probablly contribute if not the sole reaon for the resonance effect....so ...how do we enhance this?

Really?

That would be great if you did . . .

Too bad so many people rubbed Syncivic the wrong way . . . I think he might have stuck around and got something worked out. I will ping one of his buddies and see what's up, and if there's any hope of reviving it. If not perhaps Scalbert, you, Allmotor and Smitty might be able to come up with you own design.

FWIW, here are some of the links to threads on this as I'm sure there are a lot of new people that'll be asking a lot of questions.

NOTE: This subject is near and dear to serious mod fans . . . it was in part killed because of many who pissed and moaned on the threads about their skeptisim . . . SO if you are going to do the same . . . . please stay away and post elsewhere.

Personally I'd pay $300-$350 dollars for a product that produces 15HP and 20lbft of torque across a broad powerband . . . . which dynos showed.

Anyway, here's some of those old threads that may help with getting something like this back on the radar.

Understand, but will an intercooler get me 15HP and 20lbft of torque across a broad powerband . . . for that price?

My hopes on this are cost issues . . . can't afford a S/C or turbo set up for this car, but RES along with headers would put me in the 13s

in all honesty Ruf, i do not think Syn was scared off because of the doubters.. he folded on the project because it did not work out.

because any Smart business man would of easily put the product out there to make money, regardless of who said what.... (in other words, ego is not an issue when it comes to making money)

but that is my

You may be right about that . . . but Bitium seemed like a straight forward guy and said he was there for one of the dynos. Also, Doug did seem to get irritated with folks, and combined with the fact that not enough people at the time were willing to prepay to fund . . . I think he just took his marbles and went home. I've seen it before in other business areas . . . doesn't make any senses, but some people are like that.

Another thing that could have been an issue was to get the production unit to work out they way he wanted . . . .

I just hope that the brains on this forum can come up something . . . it was just too good to give up on . . . . then again, maybe it was too good to be true.

good find but not what i was thinking of...my thoughts right now are i think maybe the stock gasket need to be moved up towards the roof of the enlarged plenum cover so that those cross sections in the gasket would resonate from the air coming of the roof of the cover?

I'm not sure if this helps, but in syncivic's threads he talked about using carbon-fiber reeds from dirtbikes or something. I think thats where he got the resonance from. I can remember him saying about how he needed an extra filter to catch the reeds when they broke.

Good catch . . . I remember that now as well . . .

and we should note that the key factor in this wasn't the extra intake volume, but the resonance, hense the name it was given.

I think it was all a pipe dream, a great effort and executed well, but nothing ever came of it. Credit to him for you never know until you try. It was suppose to be at SEMA, but has anyone heard of such a device since that time? No. IMO, if it was to be the great performer it was hyped up to be, it would be in all the aftermarket houses by now. I wonder what ever happened to that guy. He is probably lurking about this board from time to time.Cheers!

typeR . . . you're such a tease . . .

So spill the beans . . . is Doug interested in giving it another go? And if not, is he willing to help you and or Scalbert get this going.

I know we have a lot more CL/TL owners than when this first started up . . . so maybe the numbers are there to make it worthwhile.

You almost had me? You never had me! You never had your car! Granny shiftin', not double clutchin' like you should. You're lucky that hundred shot of NOS didnt blow the welds on the intake. Almost had me? Now me and the mad scientist gotta rip apart the block, and replace the piston rings you fried! Ask any racer, any real racer, it don't matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning's winning

So does that mean you are getting tired of wearing that crown?

We're all gunning for that first 13 . . . so until you get there your perch is on shakey ground.

You're only half that distance . . . all you got to do is meet somewhere in between. Like Dallas or even Oklahoma City
