Exclamation i think i blew my motor

Well i was coming back from SF and a g35 pulled up and wanted to run. So i skipped 5th and tried to get it into 4th but accidentally got it into 2nd. car revved but when i felt the car jerk back i pulled it back out of 2nd. i took the next exit and all i can hear is my motor ticking really loud as if i either bent a valve or rod. anyone ever done this before over rev the motor? what do you guys think the problem is from the ticking? btw im about ready to drop in my 3.5

no question bent the valves. Just replaced 12 of mines plus a damaged CAM and exhaust rocker because the same thing was done to my car and it hit 8,6k.

Ouch. Over rev'ed and bent valves is what they'll probably find when it's torn down. Good time to do your 3.5L build. Go thoroughly through the heads so they're nice and fresh for your new motor.

He was.... he down shifted past 9K RPM. That will destroy most any motor.

well i pulled the head off nothing major 6 bent valves. everything else looks ok still. Im going to send my head out to the machine shop for inspection and maybe for a port and polish and a mill down. j35a4 block is getting the pistons replaced with my stock cl-s pistons. oem clutch should be coming in anytime next week. now i gotta look for a apexi neo. oh btw we'll see who is the noob shifter after i track her down in bakersfield the desert run. both head and bottom block will be hot tanked.

Wow man that is crazy, I didn't know over reving could bend valves that easily?!?! Then again, I don't see how I could ever accidentaly drop into 2nd or put my RPMs that high. Wouldn't the feel of the clutch warn you before you drop it in the gear?

agreed, r cars are really easy to put in gear, but if he just recently got the car then i could see why because the gears are very close together

I'd be interested seeing pictures of the bent valves if you get a chance. Also, how do the tops of the pistons look?

haha, too true, not the time to be talking about how great a MT driver you are.

I'm not going to sit too high on my horse though, i've put my (old) car in the wrong gear on accident, but i knew as soon as i let the clutch out and put it back in before it could over rev. Be nice to your new 3.5

If you bent the valves its because your pistons hit them. Did the pistons look ok? You might want to clean them up and take a closer look.

WOW, ..........I have done that several times(off course by mistake) but I guess I am cool becos the auto computer does not let u down shift enuff to overev ur engine. I have dropped from 3to 2 by mistake several times in SS and the computer just flashes with the number of the gear u are in warning u that it is a bad idea.

i guess that where the 5at shines.

dude just cuz you're a shitty driver you aint gotta start being verbally abusive to our members again, you can have a fast ass car after the 3.5l conversion but it won't stop you from over-revving like a noob and blowing (and swallowing/spitting)that engine too. learn how to shift then come back and yap about times and dynos and track stats. and learn to kick back and not get asshurt by people bustng your balls...it's the internet.

lol man if you want to get all mad that's OK everyone here knows I am just poking a little fun at you..........and you just made yourself look like an idiot...

now that you brought age into it.......do you REALLY think you can "shut his ass up"? talk about being immature.......lol

you want help? go to driving school and learn how to properly drive a stick.......then you won't have to spend thousands repairing a motor that should have a lifespan of about 400-500K.....better yet show some common sense and quit racing on the streets.........

Good luck man, you're gonna need it..........

i wouldnt be talking if u dont even have a 6 speed you got an auto it cant ever happen to you because you will never be able to drive the car the way i do and when that time comes when you get a 6 speed then you can start talking. you probably never even drove one so you dont even have any say in how close the gearing is in the car.
