There are some kids around here that have some pretty bad ass TRD Solara, those are EASY to mod out to, and they can handle TONS of HP. I'd never have one, and I do think they are ugly...
Just watch out for the ones that are tricked out, you may get taken if you're stock...

our cars will only need headers and cai to match.
as for being easy to fix up, they are still struggling for aftermarket support, even from stillen, which is why they had stillen day a month ago to see how much support is availible for the toyota camrys/solara's/etc.
torque is, higher in the solara however. weight seems to be our biggest downfall.
my friend has a stage 3 solara, it's fast, but not as fast as the cls.

Aww come on! the solara isn't all that bad...I drive my girlfriends every once in a while because we need to get her mileage up! Stiffer steering, but the acceleration feels quicker than my 3.0 CL. You can't really compare the car to the new CL-S because you're talking about a car with 200 hp stock compared to 260 hp stock. Installing a supercharger isn't the real way that the car was made to drive, so it isn't always going to be that great of a speed upgrade. It is fast though....
I would stick with a CL, but she liked the Solara! At least I can tinker with her car until they build a supercharger for ours!

Their tranny's can hold so much power BECAUSE THEY'RE MANUALS, Also, aren't solara's RWD? I wasn't sure.
Cmon we hear about Turbo Teg's and Civic's making 280 hp at the wheels with their auto tranny's, Supra's making 650hp with theirs... Its all about a freakin clutch and a stick. (and lack of that damn torque converter)
Oh yeah, and those solara's, I dunno why they didn't just boost it a bit more, the Stage 3 kit is only 4 psi of boost. That's pretty mild.

I saw that about the boost, too. I figured the "stage 3" kit was just cosmetic or something.

Car & Driver tested a Stage 1 TRD Solara in Nov 2000. It was 0-60 in 6.3 and only had 242hp. The Stage 3 has a few more goodies and still only about 270hp. It should be able to hit high 5s. All in all, not terribly impressive for a car with the same amount of power, but more torque than a CL-S, it's a tad lighter than a CL-S and has
a manual. I think our car would be in the high 5s stock with a manual. I'd expect mid 5s out of the Stage 3.
And Solara's are FWD... they're just 2 door Camrys!!

Yeah Solara's are fwd, but I think their weight is a lot lighter than the CL-S. Somewhere like 3175 lbs so a couple hundred pounds lighter. About the psi rating, they couldn't put more onto the supercharger because of "boost control and detonation" according to an interview with Reed from TRD. The spent 2 years developing a charger where they would be positive that it wasn't hurting the car. Dunno...I thought they could do better too...Let's just hope that CL supercharger's give a little more of a push!

my other friend is having headers built for his car, and if they give numbers like the comptech headers give us, then 270 would be likely.
from stage 1-3 the sc is NOT included, however, you are able to purchase the sc seperately. for example, you are able to have the stage 1 with or without the sc. car and driver must had a sc solara if the 242 is to the wheels.
the stage 3 includes: 5spd, w/TRD Exhaust, springs, struts, short shifter, body kit, TRD/TSW EVO wheels, trd decals and custom ID plate. .basically suspension upgrades. that is the reason my friend only dyno'd at 172, because he did not purchase sc since it is not included in stage 3, and there are problems with the strut bar and the sc fitting correctly.
besides, a stage 3 solara (without the sc)cost a few g's less than the type s non navi, which would you rather have?
and in any case, my friend is selling his car. hehe. he wants the tl type s. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. .he knows wassup.

According to the Feb 2001 Sport Compact Car, the TRD Solara they tested gave the following numbers:
282 hp @ flywheel (243 hp on Dyno)
276 lb-ft @ flywheel (228 lb-ft on Dyno)
Performance numbers are as follows:
0-30 mph: 2.7 sec
0-60 mph: 6.2 sec
30-50 mph: 2.2 sec
50-70 mph: 3.2 sec
Quarter: 14.5 sec @ 97.8 mph
Take that for what you will, but it seems like a pretty good match for a CL-S.

Ok, so a stage 3 solara may beat our cl-s but at what cost. I would hav eto think that it would be way over 30 grand and that if we upgraded out car, from 30 grand that it starts with, and bught headers and intakes and exasut, we could blow there doors off and still be driving a much bette car than the solara, plus its based on the camrey, how gay is that.
WG
I still stick with the cl-s. much nice and smoother, my roomate has a black solara and its nice, but not something that i would buy

coilovers or springs to come soon 501+ posts makes me a freak on the old Cl page.
