I need the boards help
I need the boards help
I have a 2002 acura cl-types and i want to put some 18 inch katana Spazio on my car but tire rack said the because cls come with XL loading rating the only tire i can use is a 225/45/18 from michlien which cost 250 a wheel is this true.
Talk to Tim the guy that runs www.Acura-TL.com and www.AutoCarParts.com. He might be able to help you out.

You are not the only one getting this response from TireRack. They have great stuff and good service. If you mention CLS or TLS, they will cover their butts by making sure any tire you buy from them has a load rating equal or higher than 93 and an XL rating. (Once Acura designated the stock (recommended) tire as a "215/50VR17 93V XL", they effectively locked in the XL and 93 requirements.
I looked up the only tire from Michelin on their web site with the size 225/45/18, and it says it's an 91 SL rated tire. (They have a very high 1992lbs shown, which doesn't match the 91 rating shown there. The Michelin site has the Michelin Pilot 225/45/18 also listed as a 91SL tire, but with a load@max pressure of 1356@51PSI (which is a 91 SL tire).
The silly part of this, is that TireRack would just end up selling you a 91 SL tire which is NOT XL rated -- Oops!

Suggestions for buying:
1. Go see Tim (a great person to buy from).
link: http://www.autocarparts.com/search/r...n&subcat=Tires
2. Try another tire chain..
3. Call TireRack and just tell them you want the wheels and tires for a CL or other car with NON XL ratings.
If you want to keep the XL ratings, you get a Toyo T1S Proxy in a 235/40-18 with a load rating of 95 XL or a 225/40-18 with a load rating of 92 XL. I think Nitto also makes some XLs.
Unfortunately, TireRack is a big company with deep pockets and some people will sue if anything bad happens, regardless of fault.

IMO -- I think the 91 or 92 is fine if you watch "speed and weight." There are a number of members here running that setup and they seem to be ok.

they are trying to protect themselves from a potential lawsuit, apparently. Not that they seem to be doing it correctly, but....
