I keep thinking about the new GTO

I can't help it. A 2+2 coupe with a meaty V8, nice interior, etc. And,it does not cost an arm and a leg. I keep going toe the wesite and listening to the sound clips of the car.

I would wait for slp to come out with their version or pontiac to drop the LS6 powered Judge.

i agree with brian6speed. i really dig the performance figures but i'd like a more distinctive shape to the car. i've also had friends with different pontiacs and they've been less than reliable. of course this may not reflect on their flagship vehicle but it's in the back of my mid nonetheless

I personally would get it. Its going to be good quality, since its built in australia, and it isn't the first model year, technically, so I wouldn't worry about that. LS1 engine is proven and solid, and an absolute monster with heads/cams. also even if you pick the auto tranny, is dam near bulletproof.

Wait till the '05 model year. They plan to put the current Z06 motor in it and call it "The Judge".

That's a name from the past!! But I guess if Pontiac throws a Ram Air setup on a new GTO and produce it in limited numbers (i.e.: the 69-71 GTO Judge), they'll have no shortage of fans (not to mention, reasons for dealer markup).

It won't be long, and worth the wait and the extra $$$$

and not a very well handling car!... I read few review. Overall a so so handling car, more like GT straight line coupe.

We need a real sports coupe at $30K that is better than the CLS!!

I like the interior a lot! It's about time Pontiac lost the "playschool by Fisher-Price" buttons for the radios and heaters so that's a good step. I still think the outside looks like a big Sunfire though.

Me Likey !! The styling is kinda stealth, very sedate and that's o.k. with me. I'd consider it. Any 0-60s on the Auto trans ? I know the manual is around 5.3 and that's with the stock M+S tires !!

Aussie company Holden makes the GTO for Pontiac. Pontiac changed the Monaro to look like a Pontiac. http://www.fast-autos.net/holden/series3.html

They also have HSV (Holden Special Vehicle) AWD Coupe
http://www.fast-autos.net/holden/coupe44.html

Holden in Oz is like Chevy in the US so there are plenty of aftermarket parts.

FWIW I work for an Austrailian company and get their car magazines. They even have a "Ute". Monaro with a bed, a la El Camino.

I drove a Comodore ( i forget which one..the fast one) in Australia and that thing was open. Those cars are hot there. I was impressed with the build quality. I am assuming this cant be far from those.
I agree it does look a little ponitac-y, but it still looks clean. I can get over it. I don't mind the plain look...after all i bought a CLS.

I wouldn't buy a first year one ( i cant afford it till next year) but, having said that, this really isnt a first year model...it has been on the streeets there for a couple of years.

I agree with Beltfed...this a lot of car for the money.

so your saying... if someone gave you a 04 pontiac gto with a stipulation that you have to use it as a daily driver for a year and at the end you get to keep the car plus a sum of $$ you wouldnt own one?..... riiiiight. :P

I think its funny how people say its too bland. 99 percent of the time pontiac gets bashed because their cars are too "Plastiky" and over the edge styling wise with harsh lines.

Now they say the GTO is way too bland.

I for one think it is a great step forward for Pontiac. The car is going to be solid and very streetable. The magazines are running deep into the 13's with them and the aftermarket is still very strong with the Camaro/Firebird parts still all over the place.

I will seriously consider buying one when the prices come down.

Just think what will happen to one of these cars when the Lingenfelter's of the world start working on them.

You will have the worlds blandest yet quickest sleeper.

I have to say, my TL-S was not a very well handling car until I put the Comptech sways and springs on it.

the gto would be an awesome m3 competitor if it lost abt 300-500 lbs...i wonder where it got all the extra weight from

btw....IMO....its pretty said when one of the best built GM models in recent history is made all the way in australia and not in the US (IMO of course)

I agree and the reason I will be paying a visit to the dealer near my office. Although my CL-S6SC is dear to me and I currently plan on working on it. It's limitations are showing strong now. However, the allure of a CL-S6SC running hard is still sweet to me. I just wish the GTO had been avaible a year earlier or they wouldn't have brought out the 6-Speed CL-S; choices would have been made easier.

This GTO's drivetrain and platform has significant room to grow and with part currently available.

But would that Lingenfelter's influence have anything to do with him being nearby.

I read in one of the magazines that the reason why it weighs so much is that in Australia, the roads can be very rough, so they need stronger chasis to handle the conditions. The chasis of the car is reinforced. It makes for a very stout flex-free chasis, but it weighs more which hurts performance
