I just swapped out my Comptech/UNI foam filter...

for the K&N cotton filter RU-2590 as discussed in this thread.

I'm using it on the Comptech Icebox intake on my 6 speed CL Type S.

I noticed that there is a bit more low pitched rumbling at idle. Has anyone else noticed this? I think it may have made my engine bay a bit too loud for my tastes. I'll give it a try for a couple days, but I may be going back to the Comptech/UNI foam filter after it dries out.

I must admit, it's nice to have two filters on hand so one can be installed as the other is thoroughly cleaned and dried.

I think my preference is for the UNI though.

I wanted to try that with my Icebox but couldn't find the thread.

Thanks.

Uni is supposed to filter dirt better but that has been debated in length already. Can't see how it would increase noise to swap the filter.

The K&N has a closed end (rubber) while the end of the Comptech/UNI is foam. I would guess/presume that this makes for a difference in intake flow. Just a guess though.

Slimey if I remember correctly the unifilter only got dirty on the side of the intake pipe from below. You did however pose a great question regarding overall surface area of the two filters. I still think the K&N is freer flowing for the simple fact that the unifilter gets dirty too quick...both filters being clean and oiled very little difference but after 2k miles the unifilter will start to decrease airflow. IMO

Not that I can tell. Mostly just a bit more of a rumble at idle.

If you have the supercharger with the unifilter, it definately needs to be cleaned at least every two months.

After a few days of driving with the K&N in place I don't notice the sound difference.

I think I'll keep this filter until the next oil change and then swap with the Comptech/UNI, or something like that...
