yeah gonna head up to my buddies exhaust shop and see if they have some gaskets which I hope they do, I know where its leaking from its just I need a gasket, and a lift would be nice too.

But I hope it fits my exhaust I just have a cat back (Tanabe super hyper medallion)

Otherwise Tom I might need some of your fabrication skills.

Worst thing to do is buy car mods in the winter. I feel like im just waiting for it to end, so it will seem like 5 times longer than normal.

it can have many sounds... rasp, ticking, off-exhaust note (like a g35 drone, I've personally experienced on the cl).

basically if it doesn't sounds clean, u may have a leak

Driving over snow caused the gasket to disintegrate, and I had to get another.

when i bought my CL within 2 weeks I dopped 2.5gs into it (got the timing belt and a shit load of other stuff done at the dlr to get it to MINT condition, new matts, trunk mat... the works), and then from june-october I spent another 1.5-2gs on modds (pulley, plenums, headers, p2r thermo gaskets, tb spacer, header wrap, sway bar, end links, grille, rotors front and back, pads front and back).. then 2 gs on a new tranny.. all said and done

oh yea and i bought a summer wheel-set as well ... 1300. plus i bought a winter wheelset

that's spending money

And I rock this baby through the winter No problem

So $2,500 <--maint
$2,000 <----mods
$2,000 <------tranny
$1,300 <------wheels

total w/o price of the car : $7,800 and how much do u think the car is worth $5,000?? If that..

I was just as smart as you , in the last year and a half I did
B&G shocks / Springs $500
Moog End links $100
Progress RSB $160
OBX headers $400
CAI $200
Outlaw Spacers $100
NSX calipers $200
EBC pads and rotors $500
Wood wheel $100

So thats about $2,260 JUST IN PARTS.. Not to mention all the fluids changed and some stuff I deff missed..
Then my tranny went ( i had to fix that cuz I just did all that to my car )
So i called around and got someone to rebuild it with Amsoil Syntetic ATF and cooles and upgraded Torque converter fo $3000 w/ 3/36 warrenty...
Then my Rear main seal started leaking real slow...and I was done with the car at that point... THERE IS ONLY SOO MUCH YOU CAN TAKE!!!

So after dumping over $6000 in parts and labot (prob closer to $7500)

And guess how much I sold my car for RAN GREAT just trickled oil from RMS and all maintence was up to date with all those mods and 160K miles
I was in no hurry to sell so I tried $5500, no one called then $5000 still no one wanted it.. then 3-4 months after listing it I finally sold her For............................................... .$3,000 .. Less then the tranny cost me... So to all you people pumping money into this car , remember the resale sux cuz the trans (even if u just had it replaced) and IT is not worth all the headache...

yea i got the car for 12500 taxes in last yr... (from a dlr, big mistake) could have saved myself 2gs.

but the car had 81000kms on it and was mint so i jumped at it. i still love the car to death.

but the car has been real good, aside from the tranny.

where i live I could sell this for 10 maybe 12 gs... right now.

but i wouldn't dare sell it.

Meh that is why I waited and bought a 6 speed, I have no problems driving stick, I actually prefer it in traffic because the engine has enough torque to move the car without throttle, I have only spent 400 for my exhaust 80 for a Intake that I made myself, and 700 for a timing belt. Granted it is my daily driver but if I wanted a serious race machine I would just dump money into my 91 civic hatch that I have. Now the civic on the other hand is strictly a race setup, I can drive it on the street I just dont want to suspension is too stiff and it too damn low, but it sounds great going to 10k rpm with ITB's...lol

The whole idea of not spending more money than what the car is supposedly worth, to keep the car maintained and to your liking, kinda baffles me. The way I see it, if you love the car then why would you skip out on things just because the resale value is low? If all the extra stuff improves your driving experience and all, then what's the problem?

I think the kinds of people who would pour more money into the car than it's currently worth, are people who see cars as something more than just something to get from point A to point B.

let alone some cars might be only worth $500, but it is worth more to the owner knowing that all the maintence is kept up to date, and it will keep getting them from point A to point B, many years to come

also lets say the tranny goes out, yes it is a couple of grand to replace, but if you went out and bought another car, you could easily spend that couple of grand just bringing that other car up to date, so it is in the same "state of repair" of your current car

like i have proably already spent like 1/4 or a 1/3 of what i paid for my car already since i bought it 3 months ago, just fixing the minor shit, and for additional mods (compared to other cars out there, it was the cream of the crop as far as maintence-wise goes; has all maintence records since new with one owner [minus the tranny, but i bought it for a discount with knowing the tranny will have to be replace at some time]), also when it snowed, it was normally just parked, owner took his brothers 4x4 instead

body has a couple of dings, but if any thing, it is still less then normal wear and tear, but my biggest complaint would be the hit and run that it has/got from a parking garage, but even then most of that damage is just on the rear bumper, so easily replaced,
and when it did get sideswiped on the otherside ;other idiot driver changed changes into previous owner; i know exactly who fixed it, and saw the damage first hand also (the body shop that fixed it does good work, abit slow though, but good) and it has absolutly no other accident history on it ethier minus those two things
also i am 99% sure it has never been a dirt road ethier

all i know is my car drive like it's brand new, and it wayyy better than I ever thought I would have it. So money cannot equivilate nor compare to the joy and satisfaction my car gives me.

when my friends get in it they all have something to say about how much they like it, the power, or the sound, or the features, or the interior, etc... I LOVE this car

I always kept my car maintained Castrol GTX every 4-5K miles , 3 quarts of new tranny fluid every 15-20K miles and brake fluid flush every year.. My car also drove like new up to the minute when something broke.. Just cuz the car drives great today does not mean the tranny will no go tommorrow!

sounds like ur still very bitter over your car. After 150k miles you have to expect to spend some money on maintenance. You can swap in a tl or odyssey tranny at a good shop. Compared to other cars the cl has been the most maintenance free car i have ever seen besides the crappy auto tranny i dont have to deal with. After 7 years i have only done the scheduled services and only things that needed to be replaced was my battery, lower ball joints and control arms. I love my cl and to me its worth more than resale value. I plan on keeping it forever tho, has sentimental value to me. plus i dont like all the new electronics and bs on new cars. Drive by wire, stupid beeping noises that just annoy you, all that extra weight etc.

Yeah IMO I think there are a lot of factors involved with how often or seldom you'll need a trans replacement. Stoned's experience was kind of an oddball one... especially when you consider a few people have ~200k miles on the original trans (or so they say...)

I'd say it's just too hard to tell either way what luck you'll have with the transmission...
