I got out of a ticket!!! wooo hooo!!!!!!!!!!

So I go to court today and i'm sittin their waiting for my name to be called. People go up one after an other and they all plea guilty. "105 dollar fine and 8 hours of traffic school" That is all i kept hearing...it was echoing in my head. Finally, this one guy goes up and the judge says "You have a ticket for not wearing a speeding and not wearing a seatbelt how do you plead?" Speeding....the guy says guilty.

"and the seatbelt?"
"your honor .... i was wearing my seatbelt"
"ok please sit down we will hear your case after we are done with th rest of the cases"

so anyways at the end, like 5 minutes later, the judge calls him up again and asks how do you plea? "sir...i had my seatbelt on"

"officer so and so is not present so all charges dismissed"

I was like Holy shit!!! The officer that gave me my ticket is not here...should i try it.

So now round tw...waiting for my name to be called i'm all Should i do it? Should i not do it? One other guy plead not guilty but the judge nailed him and gave him a conviciton. So i am shitting bricks.

Finally, my name gets called and the judge asks me "YOu have a RECLESS driving ticket...how do you plea? "

all sweaty ( I always get nervous infront of the law...i dont know why even if im innocent i feel guilty!! ) "Not guilty your honor"

He looks at me straight in the eye for a second....i have my best "I'm such an innocent little boy" face on. And he says....
officer 201 is not present....all charges dismissed!!!!

I was like uhhh....that's it. By the time i got back to my car i was doing cartwheels

i thought that the most that I could do was get it reduced to speeding (less then 35 miles an hour over the speed limit) and pay the $105. Otherwise it was going to me hefty and an automatic conviction. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!

Good job..i just kinda got out of a ticket today too, i was in court for a making a right on red when you couldnt make a right on red between 4-6....it was 430 when i did it...anyway, they just lowered it to no points and 130$ fine.....i took that and ran, cause the last thing i needed was my insurence to go up more then it is with 2 points. Im happy just paying the fine.

in new york the cop is allowed to not be present just once. if you show up and he isn't there, there is another date scheduled. so we can't pull what you did

In Nashua, there is no need for a cop... there is DA representing the cop..... I do not know it is like that...

The judge was trying to make a point to the police to be there. He could have continued the case if he wanted to. Also the policeman needed to there to prove the case. The prosecutor can't testify; he just acts as the lawyer for the state.

I dunno, but in Houston, I've always thought that people go to court hoping that the cop doesn't show up so they can get a ticket dismissed.

The last and only ticket I had for failing to inspect a brand new CLS.... the DA representinig the city came forward and made an offer to drop the charges if we agree for a Deferred adjudication the case for 90 days, if we do not commit any other traffic infraction, the case would be dropped and we do not have to show up again....

I happily agreed.

Edit: thanks for the legal name...fixed for you

Kind of sounds like Deferred adjudication.

i have a mandatory court appearance for going 117 in a 70. Do you think it makes sense to plead "not guilty"? I have no idea what i would say... I am planning on just begging the judge to let me attend level 2 traffic school and a fine reduction. Right now my bail is set at $1,450 oops...

Congrats Loseit!!!!!!!! Woooooo hooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Back in the days this was more common in the city of chicago. Reason why was because cops had no incentive to go to court because they wouldnt get paid for doing it...they would have to take time out of their schedule to go to court...now they do get paid..............and I'm sure it's the same with the rest of IL.

Smart enough to get out of a wreckless driving ticket!!!
it's "RECKLESS"..... Like, "lack of reckoning", or lack of knowledge/judgement. "Wreckless", if it was a word,
would mean "didn't get into a wreck/crash"; and unfortunately,
reckless driving gets you into crashes a lot!

Anyway, congrats man I got out of a couple tickets like that, you just show up, and if the cop is there, you plead guilty and ask for reduction, and if he's not, "not guilty" and you're done :P

Get a lawyer or prepared to get laughed at. Know state police or any police officers call them. But most important get a lawyer.

I got court tomorrow, DOUBLE TIME!!!

I know, it sucks, but I need some help. This is my first time in court, with an judge behind the stand or whateva its called.

I am hearing impaired too .

Anyways my first case at 5pm on this monday, november 25th, is about a speeding ticket I got going 74 in a 50 spd limit zone Definately not true. I'm hoping the CHP will not show up, and it will be dismissed. I'm guessing its true throughout california right? STATE LAW? not like county or something?

If he does show up, what do I do? When he asks what I plea? I tell him guilty, then ask for reduction and/or traffic school? Do I plead not guilty. Wouldnt it better to be manly and say guilty or "NO CONTEST". Main reason is why I'm here is that if the CHP does show up, I hope that the judge will give me traffic school. I have been 'good' for 17 months 1 week about. Doesnt that suck? On may 20th, 2001 I believe I got my first ticket. On oct 7th of this year, 2002, I got my ticket. SO freaking close. almost 2 weeks away. Anyways, now its been 18 months.....

I heard from www.helpigotaticket.com that I should attempt to get traffic school. Also, last time I was in traffic school, I was a juvenile. I asked the court clerk about 2 weeks ago if I can take that 12 hour course, but no, the court does not do that. FAWK.

What should I do. Need like 3-4 options.

1. See if CHP officers shows up? ............. How do I do that, he should be in courtroom sitting down too?

2. something

3. something

4 something

Thanks alot, and these steps would really help me. My first time!
Wish me luck!

Nick

Actually, you won't believe this but since August, I haven't had my lisence!! I got TWO tickets!

1. tailgating a state trooper(early in the morning driving to work. I did it without realizing!! I was 1/2 awake!)

2. attempting to pass him at 68mph!

I'm due in court on the 26th(tuesday). I plead not guilty, and requested trial by judge. I originally planned to plead not guilty, and Bullsh1t, that I had speedometer problems, and was following the trooper to measure my speed, but I don't know what to do if o'l boy shows up!
