I was at a party last night just minding my own buisness havin a good time when all of a sudden i hear some kid come in and shout out ..hey whose slow acura is out front?? sure enough he was talkin to me. i was like hmm.. thinkin to myself.. i do have a cl s.. its not that slow. so the kid goes my car would kill that. he has a 5speed 96 maxima with headers exhaust an chip. so he starts callin me out.. mean while im in no condition to drive i remember my friend had already taken my keys away from me b/c i was drinking so needless to say i will be runnin with the kid and his so called cl eating maxima... what do u guys think?? should i be worried about him beating me.?!

Those maximas can be quick, so I would watch out. You both are FWD so he has no advantage there. Depends what you have, he may beat you, he may not beat you.

'96 Minima with headers, exhaust and a chip... If you have a Type-S (even better if modded), you could probably take him. Just make sure to get a decent launch. Don't get too excited and mash the throttle. Ease into it, grab traction, then go WOT.

u should win if its a cl-s i dont think an 96 maxima has the whp even with the mods he says he has as a stock cl-s

if you're a cl-p don't be too cocky, a cl-s should be a good race

 

If he can drive you will lose. A manual Max with a Y-pipe and the rest of those mods should be enough to beat you. A Max with those mods and a good driver can hit mid 14s with ease.

 

They may not have the HP but they have gobs of low-end torque. They aren't to be taken lightly if they are modded.

 

hmm... i had a '96 maxima, they're lighter but have less hp/tq... but their low end powerband is pretty nice. even with mods the maxima didnt feel as quick as my CL-S. i would give you the edge but it should be a close race.

The only advantage the Max has is that it's a manual. Try it (somewhere safe!) and let us know.

 

well i do have a cl-p but i said it was a cl-s to save myself from listing my mods... under the hood a have: aem.cai.. comptech headers.. test pipe (no cat) b-pipe and thermal axle baks.. also aem pullys and cams.... i beat my boys 03 type s w/ eaze so now wut does everyone think.. im still skeptical..

 

I raced some kid in a 96 5-speed max w/ y-pipe/intake/exhaust a year ago in my TL-S and took him out by a few car lengths. Everytime he went to shift, I was in the sweet part of VTEC and he was finished. If you have a Type S, you should beat him.

 

Since when did a CLS have more than one CAM. Our cars are SOHC. and your boy w/ an 03 probably couldn't drive for shit. Even the newer 6spd accords that only have 240 hp would give you good race. What does a CLP have... 240 hp? I think you'd be even w/ an 03 CLS w/ your mods. Sounds like BS to me.

 

CLP is 225hp. With his mods he should be close to a stock CLS at the wheels.

Go ahead and race him, what's the worst thing that can happen - you lose? Remember that most people can't race to save their lives so the majority of races come down to driver ability. Even if you have a CL (which the Maxima would be faster than), you may be the better driver and actually pull off the upset........then he'd look REALLY stupid.

 

hey whats up guys.. thanks for the comments and help... we went out last night and i was feelin a bit nervous. we were at a 40 roll... and pulled from there i had used the ssm in this case, as soon as i heard him downshift to go i was ready.. i pulled him from the roll ..then off the line, he had me from 1st - 2nd and then as he shifted out of second into 3rd i had finally taken him. it was close but im glad that i pulled it off.

The real question is, who the hell makes aftermarket cams for our cars? I don't know of any at all.

 

true, What's easier to manufacture? Cams or supercharger? Remember the CL barely gets any love in the mod department. We'd all have cams if they were readily available which we know doesn't exist for our cars.
