While I was driving home from work, I see the tail lights of a Mercedes in front of me (about 7 or 8 cars up). I figured it was an S class or and E class, but then I hear a rumble unlike ANYTHING I've heard before, then see the car take off. It was then I realized it was an SL, and the only ones I have seen until now had been parked SL500s. Never anything above that.

So I'm trying to catch up with it, and luckily several cars turn off. As I approach, I'm looking for the //AMG Badge, but I'm not seeing it. So I was rather disappointed, but then as I got closer (it was dark out) I saw it had a little tiny 6 on the rear bumper. I about shit in my pants. I sped up to get along side it, sure enough, I saw the chrome V12 over the side air outlets. It was black, with a set of 20" black rims with a polished lip, deep dish in the back.

I look ahead, and see a red light. Oh joy....perhaps I can get him to bite, to see all the torque in action! I pull up next to him, and start to converse with the guy. It's a young white guy, in casual clothes. I start to ask him about his car, and he gives me one of those "Shut the fuck up you little ant" looks, and I got mad. I said, "Dude, it's obvious money hasn't bought you a personality."

So then he proceeds to turn his radio up to drown me out. I recognized the song "Neva Eva" by Trillville. If you know the song you know why this made me even more pissed off. So I put my car in D3, and prepare to be destoryed.

The light hits green, and this thing just fucking GOES. There aren't words to describe it. I was about 4-5 cars back in around 5 or so seconds (I have a 1st gen 3.0). The road is straight, and I let off, but see him just keep going. He must have hit 100+ before he slammed on the brakes. I wondered why until I saw a State Trooper Camaro Interceptor pull out from behind a tree

Hee hee, that's karma for you. But DAMN that car is sweet

Maybe they impounded his car and I can pick it up at auction for $5K. I'll be nice.

With an SL600, speeding ticket aint nothing for him. But at least it was a lesson.

I dont wish it on anyone to get pulled over, but if your (sl600 guy) such a dick to everyone you deserve it. I have respect for the cars that will win and those who try, sometimes I laugh, but it is all in fun. The guy deserved what he got, hopefully his trust fun set aside insurance money as well.

I probably would be surprised to see an expensive Benz in a third world country. But this is U.S.A., come on, car is really nothing to get surprised on in this country. Frankly, I would raise my eyebrows if I see an Enzo or Gallardo because they are rare. I would yell and scream when I see a all new model which hasn't become popular yet, such as two days ago I saw a Mazda 3 sedan on freeway. But Benz? I don't care if it is a SL500, SL55 AMG, or SL600, it doesn't matter, same thing(because they pretty much share the same look), I won't give it a second look. And that kind of car should be something you are proud of owning, but not something you could get cocky of, it is just not good, rare, and expensive enough. Mercedes Benz, BMW, Jaguar, Audi, Lexus, Cadillac, Land Rover and even Porsche are getting over-popular lately.

I think you are casting a net that's too large. So if you see an NSX, it's just as regular a car to you as an Integra? Or if you see a first gen M3, you just think "POS old BMW"? Or worse yet - you see the new GT from Porsche on the road and think "boy they're really selling out".
I think you're missing the point... it's not that those cars are "just another (brand name)"... The NSX is certainly not something that's poor quality, common, or cheap. It's an exotic with a hand-crafted engine for pete's sake. A first gen M3 in good condition would put me in awe as I think about the history of the car and how it has changed BMW and in fact an entire segment of the industry. And don't get me started on the new Carrera GT.
Same with the MB... The SL600 is not something you see every day. It may not be an Enzo but how often do you see a technology-loaded V12 hardtop convertible coupe on the road?! This is not "just another Mercedes-Benz".
