I could actually see the laser beam
V1 comes thru again. On my way to get gasoline, I see the unmarked unit going the other way...well I know he's going to setup down the road speedtrap, I'll be looking for him somewhere along the way back.
Sure enough I'm approaching a nice bend and there's a clump of trees in the center median, enough to conceal the entire patrol vehicle sideways; perpendicular to the freeway. I actually got the car ahead of me, his beam for about two seconds, I reduced my speed from 70 to 60 in a 65mph zone. I think V1 works best at dusk. This was an easy alert and again if I had been speeding it would have been easy to slow down and beat the laser...again.
It was still pretty light out around 8:30 but the sun was gone. And the cop behind the trees was dark and with his passenger window down, with his second shot this time for me, I could see the orange beam coming from his interior ever so slightly. To me it looked like someone drawing on a cigarette. By now I was down to 55 and I guess he couldn't believe his reading because he kept it on me for at least 5-8 seconds and I could see that orange pinpoint for at least 5 seconds.
The entire time my V1 is screaming "laser, laser, laser..." V1 is sweet!
I will buy the new V1 the day I see it and sell my old V1 on ebay...no question.

Most cops cars have handheld radar, it's rare to see a patrol car with a fixed unit in the windshield. This is in Overland Park. Now a lot of them have laser and I think they are really getting comfortable using it. And if you see an unmarked car, you know they are unmarked for traffic mostly.
There still is virtually no moving or rolling radar by the city departments in Kansas. I have never been clocked by a city cop unless the unit was stationary...except a couple of time and I still didn't get ticketed while speeding. The State will use moving radar but when OPP is moving, radar is OFF. Either they haven't been certified training in that mode or it's not lawful for non-State department to use on traffic. Those who live in places where the cop drives slow in the #1 lane up and down the freeway and clocks oncoming traffic know how difficult this is to beat.
But you are right there's beginning to be a turnaround here, I get numerous clockings now. V1 is starting to work overtime. But I know most of the hiding spots too.

The light you saw must have been a light on the device or otherwise, and not the laser beam pulse itself. LIDAR send a few pulses (in nanoseconds) and then stops. In addition, LIDAR emits a EM wavelength >900nm. We can only see between 400-700nm.

They don't have a steel shell around them for protection, not to mention the fact that (assuming proper use of crosswalks and lights) they have the right of way.

Ken, you're so skinny that you could hide between the laser beams anyway. Geesh, if you stood sideways and stuck out your tongue, you'd look like a zipper!

Thats interesting since it's suppose to be a unltraviolet laser!
I just upgraded my V1 to the newest unit for $100. Got rid of the old clunker. LOL, now they'll release the new model![Wink](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Glad you didn't get pinched Ken.

But I pretty much knew it was laser (and not some "ambiant" internal light) because the instant I saw it come on my V1 alerted.
I don't know if V1 is coming out with a new detector anytime soon. So far V1 works great with laser, I guess I'm surprised because my old Escort Passport was hit or miss 50/50.
