I bought a 2003 CL Type S 6MT today

After four months of lurking I finally found my dreamboat at the right price.

I paid $17,495 for a 2003 CL Type S 6 speed, black, ebony, navi, with 34,000 miles.

I should pick it up on Saturday.

In Massachusetts we were able to use a single rear license plate for a few years, and those cars registered with it can still use it. It will be so nice not to have to mess us the front.

Well, now I can post and have something to say.

I thought that in MA, it was required by law that we have a plate on the front?? If we don't, its comming off tomorrow!!

It is only if you have a green plate, not red.

They allowed this briefly during Governor Weld's term.

It is grandfathered, which means as long as you keep the registration going and never stop you can keep the green plate and just use it on the back.

Welcome to the club.....But now that's 2 6 speeds bought under $18K
That is sad! Now I know I would never get what I owe for this thing if I tried to sell it again.

Most dealers will give you the KBB trade in value (give or take)... I've looked mine up, and it's below 18K

Looks like I'll be keeping my CLS for a LONG time now... No sense in getting rid of an excellent car for what it's listed at on kbb...

Congrats, and welcome to a 'mature' CL owner.
That's a good price. Dealer offered me $19.5k for my 6 speed NoNavi w/15k miles a year ago, I sold it privately for $24k, in March 04.
Hard to believe dealers are letting these go so low. You probably couldn't even get an RSX for that, and no Navi. Good shoppers?
I think it depends a lot on the local market and demand, and the economy is tanking a little more, maybe less people are buying cars overall lately. I know GM et al, are starting to rebate heavily again.

My thoughts EXACTLY.
I plan to run mine to 100K or more and get a toy next year for summer driving fun.

Welcome shellfisher

So when u refer to green plate, you mean that the letters and numbers are green... correct??
Oh yea.. BTW... Congrats on the new CL-S. That's one beauty of a car

this is why i will NEVER buy a brand new car. i bought my 2002 CL (8Kmiles) in late 2003 for $15K as opposed to about $30K new.

all new cars depreciate so quickly...not worth the loss.

as a matter of record, 2001 cls models sales year began in march 2000. as of the end of february, my 2001 turned five years old. the 2003 models are therefore three years old at the end of august, since the 2006 models will be available in september. that been said, depreciation on the 2001 vehicles is approximately 10-12% per year which in my opinion is marginally high. (i'm planning replacement in jan-feb 2007)

Not to turn this into a debate but...You can't compare resale values using any figures now days. Not even from 1 year ago. The market is so flooded with used cars. Real world used car values are crap in any car.

Thanks for your support. I learned about the market and the vehicle by this website. The posting on how many 2003 6mt cls was most valuable in my search.

I can't wait until Saturday to drive it away.

I made an offer on a blue 6mt 2003 cl in February at a Chevy dealer in Wareham (only 25 miles away from me). He'd been sitting on the car since August 04. I lowballed him with an offer of $17,900. He told me that he chose not to do business with me and good luck finding a car. The car is still there. They want $25,000.

The car I purchased was listed for $24,000 since January on cars.com and autotrader.com. at at Toyota dealer in Worchester. This weekend I noticed that the price was dropped to $17,495. I had been exploring going out of state until that point. I called yesterday and he said that they had made a mistake and the $17,495 price was for a 2001 cl on the lot. But if I had a printout of the posting, they would honor the price. So I went up after work and test drove it. I need to better understand how VTEC works, wow . The salesman that sold me the car said he took it in trade a couple of months ago and gave credit of $21,000. I'm not sure what to believe.

I've put three hundred miles on it since 12:30 PM Saturday.

Wow. What a vehicle.

I'ts going to take a while to figure out all the gadgets.

The dealer put a brand new set of for new Fuzion ZRi tires on it at no charge. Does anyone know about these tires. I did find out they are summer only so I need recommendations for winter tires. Any ideas?

Its a fun car, now you will get addicted to modding it

Fuzion uhhhh...i mean they are ok. They are kind of a lower end tire but you cant complain if you got them for free. I cant imagine they would be any worse than the stock michelins.
