this am i am driving along the grand central pkwy in queens ny and i hit a fairly large puddle. the rear stepped out a little and my instinct after letting off the throttle was to see if the vsa lite came on-no

may be because you wheren't giving enough gas so, your car wasn't actually loosing traction. * could be wrong*
But when I see a puddle I drive right through it and give a alot of throttle to make a big splash and to see the vsa light go on.

I was up in the hills and hit some rocks that would crumble and smash under one of the front wheels, and I could "feel" the VSA (traction control) back power off, but if the light flashed, I wasn't aware of it.
So, I'm not exactly sure if the light "always" flashes on when traction is lost or perhaps in some situations it was just better to be looking ahead and not at the instrument panel.

I was also up in the a forest area about a month ago. I managed to hit some ice, water, and sand. The car "stepped-out" so quick, I had to counter steer to catch it (full drift). The VSA light DID NOT come on!!!

I was coming home from school (Gainesville, FL to Miami, FL) and once i hit Miami there was a bad rain storm so I drove slow to be careful with all that added weight I had in the trunk. So, as Im driving on I-95 I was hydroplaning all over the place and not once the VSA light go on. I was pretty scared for my life. i felt like i was flying without wheels.

One of the reasons I changed to the Toyo T1S Proxies was their excellent behavior in wet and hydroplaning conditions.
The stock tires were terrible on black top, and scared the sh*t out of me on the freeway in flooded conditions.
I really like tires that look like F1 or CART rain tires. I feel safer at much higher speeds and in higher water.
Look at the tread on the stock tires, they designers look like they couldn't figure out which way they wanted the water to move.

Last January I went up to Big Bear Mountain for a day of snowboarding. It was early in the AM, not many car on the road an I was by myself so I proceeded to do some "tire testing" if you know what I mean. (BTW-this is road is awesome for driving)
The temp. was 32 degrees so I hit a couple of slippery spots and the VSA kicked in immediately. I usually don't use VSA for that kind of driving, but the threat of ice patches made me think twice.

I've been in the same stuff (ice and crushed rocks [from the melt]) and I could feel the car cut back power on ascents, but never saw the light.
Just curious -- did you, did you have time to?
BTW -- I was curious about the VSA light issue (what a coincidence -- I was up crushing rocks up in Latigo canyon, and had the VSA killing the power on the loose stuff.) I called Acura care and asked them if they ever had someone back east have something similar happen, and they said some of the drivers back east -- with steep driveways covered with ice -- had to turn OFF their VSA to get up their driveways!!!!

i think i know y the VSA light doesn't come on for some of u. last Sat. i tried to peel out while turning hard right with VSA off, and as i started to straighten out, i could feel the Traction Control helping to straighten out the car - i could feel lots of resistance if i tried to continue to go right. now, the VSA is supposed to work WITH the traction control, so perhaps it was the traction control that was engaged, not the VSA, hence, the light stays off. shrug.
funny someone should mention taking VSA off goin up a driveway, b/c my house is toward the top of a hill, and since i'm from Long Island, gettin snow plows to clean the streets is like having teeth pulled!! so there i was, sitting at the bottom of the hill, in 6 inches of snow no doubt, and i tried gettin up the hill.......fuggetabout it, i got maybe halfway up the hill and just sat there, pulsing back and forth b/c the VSA would kick in, then let go, kick in, then let go, so i let gravity pull me back down. it took me about 3 tries flooring it about 100 feet before starting up the hill just to get enough momentum to get up the hill into my driveway. the VSA is a blessing and a curse...swine VSA!!!

the light should go on whether it is the vsa or traction control working...during snow, if you accelerate straight and your tires spin, it'll flash the light and reduce power or brake...traction controlling your acceleration over the snow.
vsa saved my life on a drive to atlantic city this past winter...i did not notice the light go on 'cuz i was too focused on not crashing.
but the passenger said that they did see it flash it's last flash.

They are much better than most max performance tires when it comes to cold temps, but I would never try to use them on snow. I have driven over black ice with them, but I wasn't doing 80 MPH and going sideways at the time.
If you don't want to switch between winter tires, you would be advised to go with "all season high performance rubber".

I noticed the engine back off when i was trying to make it up a steep snowy hill on my way to work one day. The tires were spinning in the snow even though I was trying to go slow and the traction control was kicking on cause the yellow light was flashing. After 10 seconds or so of tire slipage, vsa cut back the engine speed and no matter how much I pressed the gas the engine would only turn at about 1500 RPM (not sure exactly) until the tires regained traction. I haven't noticed any VSA in turns yet...thank goodness, but I'm curious as to how it reacts.
